I think multiple people have said that the Devils have targeted Swayman and Boston has said no.

Avoid Duchene, use that cap for another good depth forward and a 23 man roster.

I would think about moving Bastian for Mathieu Olivier in CBJ. Same type of player less pts so maybe Jackets do a straight swap. Couple bucks more on Nate.

The only other thing would need contract gymnastics- Hanifin as a UFA, would mean moving Siegenthaler though

In this scenario, I imagine that Palat, Mercer, and Duchene could all be interchanged until they find the right combination.

There's a 0% chance PIT is sending their 1LD to a division rival for a 3LD and a likely late 2nd rounder next year. They could easily just hold him until the TDL and get a better return from a non-Metro team.

They sent us a 2nd pair RD for an AHL player last year so this trade is a steal!

That was two years ago with a different GM- who was fired largely because of decisions like that. Also, at the time, Smith had value beyond being an AHL/NHL tweener.

I think he can do either. Which is the beauty. Very versatile. Either play him on jacks wing (he can take faceoffs as well), and haula on 3C or vice versa. A lot can be played with in terms of lines.

I think NJ could look into a 2025 1st + Bahl for Petey with extension and potentially a pick coming back.
I probably would have looked a little closer at the D UFA market, but if Fitz swings and misses from July 1 - 10 then I could see bumping the offer up assuming goaltending was sorted.

Maybe a depth prospect or two is what Pitt wants like in guentzel deal. Guys like Stillman, Vilen, Foote, hatakka, etc

I can find a million references on here to Guentzel getting traded for a roster player, 1st rounder, and top prospect too. Doesn't make it any more realistic. Expecting PIT to take LESS than they can get at the TDL is very stupid for Dubas to do and likely would expedite in losing his job.

Guentzel's deal wasn't a million miles off - conditional 2nd with reasonable odds to become a 1st, player now, two B prospects - traded in-division too...
To the points before - it feels like whether this is Bahl + 2nd; Bahl+2+prospect or 2025 1st+Bahl and a pick coming back - we're in the ballpark.

It's cutting the corners on value at every chance leaving a collective package worth far less than what Guentzel got. Zero chance this is the best offer PIT could get for him which is why it gets the certified delusional homer stamp of approval.
