Steady rebuild - MN trade

Description
Looking at Minnesota, They have a good RD with Spurgeon and Faber, but it's looking week on the LD and they don't have a good LHD PMD.

PLUS, they are tight with the cap, but still want to compete.

With Matheson at the hight of his value, it could be wise to trade him out (even if I think he could stick around an extra year and it wouldn't hurt).

With a Top 15 pick OR Yurov, MN could probably make an enticing offer to KH for Matheson.

He's got more points than your darling Faber (don't get me wrong - Faber >> Matheson).

SO SO close

In the past two posts you've told everyone that 1) just because a guy is playing in a certain role doesn't mean he belongs there, and 2) that points aren't the be all end all for defensemen.

Well, hate to break it to you, but Matheson is playing, defending and scoring like a first pair Dman.

I've been arguing so much lately with Canucks fans, I forgot how bad Habs fans were. Literally the worst fanbase and it's not even close.

Well, lets look at Brodin and Middleton, not playing, defending or scoring at Top 4 pace, yet here they are.

You know damn well Matheson is worth a lot more than a 2nd. The way cap is valued in this league is crazy, and Matheson's aav alone brings his value in the ballpark of Reilly's. They both put similar points, and both have the same terrible defense. To your logic, Huberdeau is worth more than Zibanejad because he has a better career ppg

LOL. Funniest post I’ve read. Thanks kid.

Rielly >> Matheson

There is no discussion on that.

You don't have much to back yourself up. Your only "evidence" to strengthen your point is ">>"

This is what tells me that you have no interest in any legitimate discussion, you're just a massive Canadiens homer.

Anyway, Minnesota has no interest in this trade. Moving on.

lol. Go watch any hockey. There’s not one GM in the league who would take Matheson over Rielly. It’s called common sense. Guess they don’t teach that to kids these days.

Take a business class and learn how stock works, then you can *maybe* learn to apply that to complex businesses, like NHL team managements

When your only defence point is a contract, it proves how little you know about hockey. Rielly is locked up for 6 more seasons at a very team friendly cap hit for a top pairing defenceman. Matheson has 2 more seasons and is a #4 defenceman.. any smart person would take the guy that’s locked up and a far superior player. But sure, believe all you want that Matheson is more valuable purely because of a contract.

Classic Montreal fan. They can never see pass the bias.

Your only intelligent post in this thread was condemning Matheson as "terrible defensively" in order to win a dick measuring contest with a Leafs fan. Maybe take a step back.

Matheson would be #3 on Colorado. Not sure that's the definition of a #4 D. If a guy is #3 on arguably the best D in the league, he's prob a bit better than a #4. No doubt Reilly is a better player, but you'd be so surprised to see how close the return would be for both if they were traded on the same day, to similarly structured teams. Adding a little more to value to Matheson, we can also look at the GMs of both TOR and MTL...

No shot Matheson plays more minutes than any of Toews, Makar, Girard, or Manson… probably not even Walker. That makes him a #5 at best. Likely a #6.

Matheson would not have more value in a trade if traded today. Rielly’a long term security is worth more than Matheson’s alone.

He 100% gets fewer minutes than Makar and Toews and 100% gets more minutes than Manson or Walker, very likely he gets more than Girard.

Both of you are homers big time

Matheson CLEARS Middleton, there’s no question here. Does MIN need to pay premium to upgrade on Middleton, I don’t think so. Would Matheson be an upgrade on Middleton, yes.

Leafs fan, I think you haven’t watch Matheson played at all the last 2 seasons … he is the exact same player Morgan Reilly is right now. The edge goes to Reilly because the sample is longer, but there’s not much difference in their play. Matheson is definitely a #2 defenseman now

LOL. Matheson isn’t a #2 d-man. Talk about being a homer you hypocrite….
There’s a massive difference between being a veteran minute eater on a bottom team in the league and a top pairing guy on a contending team. Rielly is far superior than Matheson and that doesn’t take a Leafs fan to realize.
This site is hilariously for takes like yours.

Only a Leaf homer would say Reilly is far superior to Matheson … even the scouting reports on capfriendly have Matheson > Reilly (88 for Matheson) (84 for Reilly)
