Well, 3 draft picks all this year is something. I think MTL is still rebuilding their program, its pipeline looks wonderful, this would make it even better. Hughes has shown a willingness to make moves. Nick Robertson clearly continues to be suppressed in Toronto. Toronto simply is already paying and playing top wingers ie-Bertuzzi, Knies, Marner, Nylander, Jarnkrok. The Leafs need a C with a right shot who can PK more than another small, defensive liability who hasn’t unlocked his potential. Plus it seems like Robertson is the perfect fit for Montreal, not only is he 5 foot eight and American. But he’s also very religious and I believe he’s Catholic. If you’ve been to Montreal, you know there’s a lot of churches. So he’ll love it. Basically, he fits the profile and age group of the Habs more than the Leafs. Also, I think MTL is doing a wonderful job taking on other teams “untapped potential” ie, Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, Robertson fits that description as well. In addition to, we all know the minute that Nick Robertson becomes a Hab, he simultaneously becomes a life long Leaf killer. And as a fan, that’s simply fun to watch and good hockey imo. As for David Savard, he costed Tampa a 1st, 3rd and 4th to get him. I think with the retention and quality of player, plus RHD, I think he easily fetches that and perhaps even more especially when you factor Evans into the trade.
that return most likely nets you that package without retention... if they take 1.5m for this year & next, you'd prob need to add smtg else or find a 3rd party
Overall very possible. I think the retention is the only issue. Hughes won't burn his last retention spot on Savard. He probably holds it for the draft in his ideal scenario or to move Allen, Pearson or Armia if it's a deal breaker. Your trade just needs a 3rd party to do it or no retention.
Don't think we would be interested in Robertson, we don't need another small winger or more draft picks for that matter. I think maybe a deal could be had if the Leafs were giving up Minton or Cowen + a 2nd or 3rd but this package offers little in the way of what we need.

Doesn’t Montreal gain back one of the retention slots once the season is over?
remove jake evans. we’re not trading him. would be very disappointed if we do so.
disagree. they need to start making more room as it's becoming ever evident that Gallagher and Anderson will be bottom-6 players for the next 2-3 years
