Wishful thinking, but I really hope the canes aim higher at the TDL this year. The Pettersson rumors were promising and according to Weekes they're potentially in on Buchnevich. But I wouldn't mind giving Patches another go at that price if they miss out again on a big splash.

Two years of a 34 year old d, making 8 per. The Sabres first is looking like a top 10 pick, and Benson is already playing top 6 minutes at 18. This isn't even in the ballpark. You want a playoff team, you'll have to retain a bunch or take back cap (maybe even a cap dump) to make the money work. And even then, the compensation would be a late first and a good playoff teams best prospect, who is almost certainly not nearly as good as benson. Honestly, I don't even like the fit, we have offensive d, we need defensive d, the kind that initiate contact.

Sabres aren't in a win now, they aren't even going to make the playoffs, need help on defense and in net with either a strong backup for UPL or a starter to mentor Levi.

Carlson is a #1D and worth Benson and more but since Buffalo isn't in a win now it looks bad. Do you think St-Louis cares about what Tage Thompson or Ryan Johnson are doing right now? They don't because the trade got them O'Reilly who helped them win a cup

Sabres are in a win now. Levi is going to be his backup, Carlson has half the value of Benson, maybe 5 years ago you could have made the case, but he's 34, coming back from a fractured skull, he's half the player he was before that and only degrading.
