I hate both the NYR and VGK trades. Not enough value to retain 50%. Kakko is a bust too so little value there. Also pretty sure Smith can't be retained if traded back to Vegas within 365 days.

Kakko is still has very good defensive metrics. He is 22 and he has the defensive side of the game down. Now he just needs to get his offense going. Not a bad problem to have. 2nd overall worthy? No. Full on Bust? Definitely not.

I find it hard to see Smith getting a single 2nd, let alone 2. Probably some interest from the Canes, but not at that price.

Pens aren't going to retain on smith. Goal is to make space. He will go back to vegas most likely.

Also, trading jake to the rags would have to cost the rags an absurd amount purely because it's a rival. That won't happen.

Pens already have a plethora of defensively capable forwards with limited offense. The likelihood of Kakko developing beyond a strong depth forward is not high at this point. For 50% retention I would want something higher end in a prospect or more picks to have Guentzel on a Metro team.
