Description
If VAN can’t sign Pettersson by the draft I see them trading him and the asset comparables are Eichel, Meier, and Tkachuk.
Transactions
1.
ANA
  1. Kakko, Kaapo
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (NYR)
  3. Choix de 5e ronde en 2025 (NYR)
NYR
  1. Henrique, Adam (2 912 500 $ retained)
  2. Vatrano, Frank (1 825 000 $ retained)
2.
ANA
  1. Choix de 5e ronde en 2024 (EDM)
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2024 (NSH)
3.
ANA
  1. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (DAL)
4.
ANA
  1. Guentzel, Jake (3 000 000 $ retained)
PIT
5.
ANA
  1. Campbell, Jack
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
Ducks are in a position where they can just buy out Campbell since they’re not pinching pennies in win now mode
EDM
  1. Guentzel, Jake (1 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Ducks are a middle man in three way between PIT and EDM. In this scenario EDM probably loses two firsts Broberg, Foegele + to get Guentzal and have enough cap to re-sign him by offloading the Campbell contract in full. A 1st in 2025 top 10 protected is probably the lowest price they could have without taking back salary
6.
VAN
  1. Jones, Max
  2. LaCombe, Jackson
  3. McTavish, Mason
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (NYR)
  5. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
The Anaheim pick is top 5 protected

This trade would happen at the draft.

The ducks actually aren’t in a spot to take on Campbell in this scenario. EP will need a big extension in the offseason and then all of the kids will need raises in 2-3 years too. They will be tight to the cap and the Campbell dead money could be a hindrance.

1.5M for 6 seasons ain’t that bad with the cap going up as much as it will. Having a first in 2025 would be worth more asset-wise than 6 years of 1.5M

Here's why I think ANA shouldn't do a deal like this... McTavish. This team has a bevy of young developing players, so slated to be top NHL talent.

To me what happens here is you get Pettersson to accelerate the rebuild and you in essence almost waste some years of him being here because you're still waiting on everyone else to develop, so then you have to go out and start spending money you don't need to surround them with more vets.

Ducks should stay the course.

At some point you have to make a big move. Disgruntled superstars don’t come on the market too often. They already have their set future roster in

Gauthier-Z-Terry
McT-Leo-top 5 2024 pick
Killorn-Lundy-Strome

Fowler-Gudas
Mintyukov-Luneau
Zel-Lindstrom/Vaks/Helleson/FA

They have an abundance of assets but not all of em are gonna be able to make the roster so they need to package some of em together for a game changer, this is the type of trade they need to make.

LOLOLOL Isn't much more than a productive Kakko? What a weird comment to make. Like hey, player A isn't anything more than player B other than the fact he actually scores. Who wants that? No Rangers fans apparently. Who needs players who score?!? LOL

Do you realize how silly that sounds? Vatrano has 26 goals with around what, 30 games to go? Kakko doesn't even have 26 points LOL. Get outta here lol

Zero chance we give away Kakko's career for Vat, zero. He's very solid and will improve. Vat is getting good minutes, but like you said we saw him, he's Grabner 2.0.

I doubt it. Drury runs the risk of Kakko going the way of Puljujarvi with a real shot at a Cup this year. I think they take this deal running the risk of Kakko figuring it out on another team.

The Rangers are in a win-now mode. Now, I'm not comparing you to the Pens, but Arty and Kreider are 32. They're not old, but the clock is ticking. Mika and Trocheck are 30. The time is now. You have the defense, the goaltending and Arty is having a crazy year, but your depth is an issue and will catch up with you in the playoffs. It's why a lot of good teams fall short in the playoffs. Adding Vatrano and Henrique, at least to me, probably make you guys the favorite in the East.

There's absolutely no guarantee Kakko's production will improve, none. Yes, he's excellent defensively, but the league is full of good defensive forwards who don't produce. We had ZAR. He some of the top defensive metrics of forwards in the league for a couple of years, but dude couldn't hit an open net if he was standing right in front of it.

Your time is NOW and shouldn't be hindered by waiting out one player.

Agreed and Puljujarvi is a very good example. Even when looking at his season-by-season stats he also has a recent blip of 36 points in 65 games, but could never really put it all together.

You literally say nothing of weight. You just spout stuff off without any real substance behind it. Clearly you don't know anything about Puljujarvi. There are many parallels with him and Kakko.

This time of year is crazy sure. But A+ prospects or ready made youngins with big potential don't get thrown around for fill ins. Kakko improves every line he plays with, stats schmats really. He needs to grow some and get involved, then he'll get noticed. Laf was bad last year also, same thing.

Not a different animal at all. JP was a 4th overall pick with very similar attributes and expectations. Are they apples to apples? No, but they have far more in common than not.

It’s not a flat rate. 1.1, 2.3, 2.6 and then 1.5 for the next 3 years. 6 seasons of dead money isnt a good thing. And when the kids are up they’ll all be due raises plus the EP40 contract. The ducks would be a cap team team in 2-3 years. It’s an issue.

Make it the 2024 ANA 1st assuming it's not top 5, and you've got a deal. Can even keep Lacombe and Jones if you want, they don't really carry any weight.

Literally had these exact same discussion with Oilers fans about Puljujarvi a couple years ago. A savvy management will realize that regardless of whether Kakko turns into a serviceable top 6 forward it probably won’t lineup with this cores window so best to get players that can help in that window with what mitigated value he still has.

Lacombe definitely moves the needle you just don’t know who he is, but other GMs definitely do, and he looks like he’ll be bonafide top 4 dman with offensive upside.

The trade was the Ducks pick top 5 protected and the rangers 1st. Along with the other pieces. It’s pretty much same value as the panthers Tkachuck trade just different age groups and expanded team control on the assets.

Oh no, I know who he is.

He's a dman with solid defensive accumen, but almost zero offensive or puck moving ability. He's playing 2nd pair minutes on Anaheim because the team is awful, and he's getting absolutely buried in it. But he's also 23, and will improve and stabilize, but I see him as a future defensive 3rd pairing dman on a good team or top 4 on a bad one.

Anyways, that doesnt move the needle for EP40.

Anyways 2.0, the trade was the 2025 Anaheim 1st. I wrote that it needs to be the 2024 Anaheim 1st.

Right, would never be that many first, go look at everyone else trades and read an article or two which are all saying the same thing.
and doesnt matter oilers arent going to waste assets they need to go on a cup run anyways. they will just buy him out in the summer and not pay anyone a dime. ( exceot campbell of course)
