I'm not totally sure I agree with that, but Ned could easily go to a number of other teams, so that's fine. We'll change it up.

You are in a different camp on that....Graves has not been good for them, and trading a 1st is an insane price...

Do you recall how bad Graves was to end the year with us?

2.5 mill is enough of a bargain that I trust him to be a reliable 3rd pairing guy.

Hurricanes do not a goaltender... Kochetkov, and Martin has been a great tandem and Freddie is coming back soon

What’s your argument for them needing a goalie? They have woll jones and samsonov currently

Nedeljkovic's save percentage is just 5 points higher than Kochetkov's. For a 2nd? No.

Honestly I just feel uncertain about that group. I wonder about consistency of performance, and I wouldn't say no to a cheap upgrade like Ned, considering how well he's performed this year behind a very bad Penguins defense.

Same goes for Carolina. I think they could both be meaningfully improved by the addition of Ned, and he's available for practically nothing against the cap.

For a 1st round pick??? We are trading 1sts for 3rd liners?

For a guy I value around 3.5 mill to get at 2.5 is worth it.

Tough to talk about being unsure and wanting consistent goaltending and then drop a name like Nedeljkovic as an upgraded consistent goaltender lol. I also wouldn’t consider him an upgrade on Woll or Samsonov at this point.

Woll has a .916 sv% this season and was the Leafs clear #1 heading and was the only reason they were in some games early on in the season

Samsonov stumbled out of the gate and has since over his last 10 games held a .915 sv% and looked steady.

canes pass, no interest in Ned. We have been there done that. he is highly variable in his play and once he loses his mechanics he gets smoked because he is a small goalie.

some of those other deals would be interesting for sure for the canes.

I just can't agree. Rather than a 3rd line spot for the next Bahl or even Seamus Casey coming. We shouldn't be trading 1sts to get guys we expect to be 3rd liners...that's where we get in trouble. We aren't bad because we lack 3rd liners, we are bad because we lack guys behind able to take on big minutes. What we do have to live with Luke and Nemec will be those guys, they are just taking their beatings now.

Figure out 3rd liners far cheaper than giving away assets we need for bigger moves.

I’d argue we need the more depth pieces. A rock solid back end guy while the kids develop, a McLeod replacement, and 1 more 4th liner with some size and ability (Trenin).

You aren’t getting a 2nd from the Canes for Ned. There is a reason the Canes traded him in the 1st place. Why would they pay to bring him back as the 4th/5th goalie, especially when goaltending hasn’t been the problem since the middle of December?

$2.5 mil/year and a 2026 1st is worth it for a 2nd pairing d-man that we know plays well in our system.

A late 1st to secure value. Value is value whether it’s at the top of the roster or the bottom. Gravy would be playing 19 minutes a night.

Edmonton doesn't want a $5M+ backup. They'll buy Campbell out in the summer and keep Broberg + 1st + 1st.

That's how I view this. I think it's actually a more sane trade on NJD's end of things. PIT retaining that much for that long really necessitates a 1st coming back.

It’s low risk imo with a low cap hit and a known fit for graves. I’d do it, not sure another team would who doesn’t know how gravy may fit
