The main Ideas come from making 2 trades at the 2024 deadline.
1. Ceci, Bourgault, 1st for Carrier (50%), Trenin, and a 4th.
- An upgrade at RD and getting out of Ceci costs us a 1st and Bourgault, then add Tenin and a 4th. This could be taken out I'm Just thinking if we are trading a 1st we'll want some later pick back. Like the Ekholm trade. And the value seems fair to me. NASH has a lot of top 60 picks so it makes sense for them.
2. Dowd and Lindgren for Brown, Lavoie, LaChance, and 1st and 2nd. I think this may be an overpay for us but my thinking was Dowd costs a 1st (add LaChance because I doubt he signs with us). Then Lavoie and a 2nd for Lindgren. Brown tossed in there for cap,
Then 2024 Draft:
1. Trade Kulak. Unfortunately, we can't afford to keep him, not because of money but because we have to play Broberg. I think we could get an RFA swap for him because if a team weaponizes their cap then can easily get a 2nd or 3rd and prospect for him at the 2025 or 2026 deadline.
Picks in this ACGM:
I'd like us to take Adam Jecho if he is there with our 2nd. And then Fransen or Jokinen with the 4th we got. It's too early to mock picks or anything but I think we need size on the wings and an LD prospect.
RFA:
- Bring back almost everyone, I don't think I'm being too unrealistic with the contracts.
UFA:
- Bring back the guys we traded for (Carrier and Trenin)
- Bring back about half our team (Perry if he wants to keep playing, Vinny, and Pickard, etc.)
- Sign a top 6 winger. This has to be a 1-year deal so that the money will pretty much be there for Drai and Bouchard. We can potentially overpay This could be anyone really for between 4-5 mil. Like Tarasenko, Sprong, Kane, Perron, Toffoli, whoever really.
- NHL depth I signed Jani and Rem
- AHL depth anyone (I signed Harkins and Highmore)
'24 Draft trade. We won't have to pay to trade Kulak but maybe the best we can get is an RFA winger. CHI can retain half of him and probably get a 2nd at the '25 deadline if he plays in their top 4. Similar to what MTL did with him.
I could see Kulak as a short term target if we trade Murphy somewhere else. Otherwise, I dont really see the value in adding another defenseman to a clogged system.
Jecho is a good big winger, and he would be a good addition, but I personally would like some more speed and skill with Andrew Basha, or Tanner Howe if they are there. Any of the three guys would be good choices anyway, and yes, it is a little early to fully decide which one is the best fit for the oilers, and for the GM depending on who we choose to sign.
With Holland, I doubt we would go for a smaller guy like Carrier, although I personally wouldn’t be opposed to it. Carrier is a good player, and would help Nurse out defensively. I would like a trade for him more, if he came with an extension instead of giving a bunch of assets for a rental.
I don’t see the Hawks taking on another left handed shot d-man. I know Kulak can apparently play his off side but at $2.75m per season, I would just as soon try moving some of the Hawks existing cheaper options to the right side.

That's fair. Didn't look too much into it. For the purposes of a dump Kulak could go anywhere, doesn't necessarily have to be Chicago.
