That’s a price no GM would pay for a goalie.

I think the Avs would take that if they thought they could re-sign Novak to a reasonable extension

But we are not dealing with just a goalie... We are dealing with a Vezina finalist (for how many years now?)... To me that is a very fair price for both sides...

Well, may I suggest you do a little homework before randomly picking teams 🤦🏻. Can’t see much of a market for Lankinen - pending UFA, backup, not having a great year.

the devils laugh at that offer. Name one time a goalie went for anything close to that price.
Even if the preds retain half the devils aren't giving up that much. Especially considering the season he is having

Yeah, they would for a 2nd two years out but I think they'd really want to be able to re-sign him. I do wonder what he'll get on his next deal. He has a lot of upside but is older and has limited experience. I'd think $3Mx3 gets it done but I could be way off.

Watched a Preds fan thing the other day (podcast) and I will say it was ONLY a fan thing. They were talking 2.5 bottom end, 5 top end for him signing with the Preds, so 3.5 to 4 could be do-able if the Avs can move RyJo. Obviously still talking about moving a D for when Landy returns but it can be made realistically to work at about 3.5. Have to think for a shot at cups as well and still having the opportunity for a bigger deal after he'd be eminently re-signable.

Every goalie is special in their own way. But too much risk in the position to pay that for a goalie.

Hasek didn’t get that when he was traded a few days after winning his sixth Vezina in eight years.

No goalie in cap era has been moved for two 1sts, let alone two 1sts AND a top prospect. (Curtis Joseph was the last).

It’s just not realistic.

$5M is way too much for a guy with such a limited history but $3.5 is definitely doable. They have to trade Manson no matter what; they need the cap space. I'm interested to see what happens with Drouin.

I was just typing up a reply stating exactly what you just said when I saw your post lol.
No goalie in the cap era (or in league history as far as I can tell) went for anything close to this price.
Preds would get one of those pieces... not ALL THREE

I certainly agree 5 would be too much. 4 is the most I would go to, 3.5 or less if somehow they could wangle it would be marvellous. With some other moves it might even be possible to find a way to re-sign Drouin.

I've played around with Novak at $3.5M along with trading Manson and Joey then re-signing Drouin. Unless he takes a very deep discount, it doesn't really work to ice a 21-man roster and have room for call-ups. Avs are in a tough spot cap wise with no relief coming; CMac has to put on his big boy GMing pants and work on this roster in the offseason.

Goalie risk premium.

Holtz alone for a goalie would be an historic return.

My guess is Saros goes nowhere until his extension window opens July 1st. If they cannot extend him at team friendly deal, they move him with season remaining.

Yeah it might be a case of into the moving two D or a D & F scenario and going a little cheaper on the D corps. Also depends on what the Avs are willing to offer JD and what he's looking for. May take a cut to stay somewhere he's finally feeling happy (assuming he is, and he seems to be) and playing well. Can live in hope!

Yeah if devs move holtz I’d expect it to be 1 for 1 with preds retaining half . At least if the trade is somewhat in line with the typical goalie trades.

I’m interested to see why OP is valuing saros so much more than every goalie trade in history

I think it's going to be difficult getting that much from NJ, without sending more along with Saros.

Even with the retention, I'd be shocked if Barrie could fetch a 2nd+.

Should be able to get more for Novak, Carrier, & Fabbro. I'd rather re-sign them, instead of settling for those returns.

Of the two players in that proposal, I don't think Lankinen would be the difficult one to find a market for. Lots of teams aren't happy with their goaltending situation this season. It's not hard to imagine there's a market for an experienced backup at a reasonable cap hit, and with the flexibility of not coming with additional term, if he's not a fit.

If I were TOR I'd be ecstatic to be able to unload multiple years of Reaves, for the low price of a 3rd. Getting an extra piece to flip that should get you a 4th or so back would just be gravy.

Hardest of passes on that trade, for NSH.

Reaves can be buried in minors at min cost; certainly no urgency to move him. Agree to disagree - can’t see many teams paying anything more than a late round pick for a pending UFA, backup goalie having a meh year but time will tell.

I don't think they can afford to trade two D; that would be a huge change in the play from the back end which is a strength for them. And who would they trade from the forward group? They need everyone that's signed long-term.
