Description
I think there will be a market for Hayes at the deadline and getting a 2nd for eating a little money would still be a solid ROI in my opinion.

They say Broberg won't be moved for a rental, but Buch has the extra year and should be extremely enticing to any team that wants two solid playoff runs. I'm sure Holloway is a polarizing topic right now but I feel like he doesn't carry much trade value but is definitely worth a look for a team that could allow him to develop some more. Personally I think this is selling short on Buch and barely above what would be required to move him instead of waiting another season and getting the classic deadline rental package - 1st, B prospect, cap ballast - in 2025. But I do see NHL ability in Broberg and Holloway so it could be worth the gamble.

Use the end of the season to see if Holloway and Alexandrov can hold NHL spots. Alexandrov has played over 10 minutes in just 3 games this season. Hard to tell what you've got when you give a guy 10 shifts every third game and tell him to never make a mistake. Just ask Jake Walman or Dak Joshua.

Also a good time to get Snuggerud involved. I think it's inevitable especially after the Cutter Gauthier drama; last thing the Blues want to do is strain the relationship by asking him to go to Springfield on an ATO, and I think he'll be done in NCAA regardless of how their season ends.

I think in the summer Army is going to have to buy out Krug and maybe find a new home for Leddy or Faulk at some point before the end of next season. The sooner the better.

5 picks in the top 64. Time for Army to tell the scouts to swing for the fences. The guys they took last year were safe, now it's time to gamble.

Thoughts?

I’d do 1 and 3 but not the 2nd deal.
I think that sets us back more than it helps us

You're eating alot of money long term for Hayes for a late round 2nd in a weak draft?

I could think of a lot worse. First round picks are accepted currency anywhere and these guys are 22 yrs old and have NHL tools, just need the right tool chest. What is your expectation if Buch is traded?

If they can get a better pick I'd be overjoyed. FWIW I don't think the Blues will be spending to the cap for the next couple seasons - not sure how aggressive Armstrong is going to be in the middle of his little retool effort.

Maybe, but selling without getting anything back and maintaining 90% of the team doesn;t seem right either. Not moving Kapanen? Moving Hayes, but not Schenn? Seems like a half measure.

Just FYI: Edmonton cannot currently afford to take Sunny as well as Buch.

Right on
I just don't think Army will trade Buchnevich
I wish he would but
Holloway isn't appealing at all
Neither is Broberg or a late 1st

Edmonton does not have the cap space to spend their top 3 assets for another left-shot winger, especially a guy who has 1 goal in 20 career playoff games.

I could see a smaller deal for Sunny though. What's he worth - a 3rd / 4th?

Holy cow that just gave me flashbacks to a year ago on Barbashev.

I like the notion of adding 1 career goal in 20 playoff games. Yet 5 of those games were in his rookie season and the long stretch of 12 games in 2021 he had 11 points in 12 gameas.

No reason to trade Sunny for a 4th, honestly with what we have draft capital wise I'd rather keep him than trade him for a 3rd. But regardless i think it will come down to what he wants.

That trade makes no sense for the Blues anyways. If we want to down a guy for nitpicking production. Both Broberg and Holloway have a full season of games played. And both have proved to be barely NHL depth quality players. Old tale of Edmonton either drafting horribly or developing horribly. Getting guys with great tools but no toolbox. I think both guys will end up having NHL careers but I doubt Broberg eclipses a bottom pairing player, and Holloway looks to be between a 3rd and 4th line player. 0 incentive to trade a 1st line player on a very good value contract for a season and a half for that. Could very easily get a late 1st + decent prospect + a roster piece next season. Which i would argue is equal to better value depending on prospect than that current return.

Yeah he went for a 4th rounder last year, probably something similar if the Blues put him on the board.

I really don't think you'd be disappointed in Buch, that's a pretty unfair portrayal of the guy.

Yeah, but they can't afford Buch anyhow, even with the 50% retention.
