Both players have the same type of offensive potential, but I think Zegras is a better fit for the Habs than Johnson because he already have a natural chemistry with Cole Caufield. But, the trade offer should be bigger than that.

Also, I don't see Davidson decide to give up on Johnson, they have more chances to firing Vincent before trading him away.

Everyone push for Z & Cauf reunion... but I don't think it is right to do so... PARTY!!!!
What would you add if a 10 OA pick is not enough (10 oa = one of Helenius, Eiserman or lhd Buium, Dickinson)

Zegras maximum trade value can be comparable as the DeBrincat trade to the Sens.

So, a trade like this proposal is a realistic one :

    - 2024 1st round pick (MTL) (7th -9th overall)
    - 2024 2nd round pick (COL)
    - Justin Barron
    - 2024 4th round pick (MTL)

Debrincat had 7 season going for full UFA... you always pay a bit more for a 27yo guy...
Z is great but not yet at DeBrincat value... and 3 years bridge means if he play like a STAR-Player, he would fetch 10+M/y

Of course, Montreal clubs will gonna be ready for that. But I heard recently in a Habs independent media podcast that the Canadiens hired somes '' security guys '' to check them to not makes somes '' outside of the rink mistakes '' and avoid the same types of problematics situation as the Galchenyuk or the Kostitsyn brothers situations.......

Montreal wants to establishing a hierarchy of the contracts like the Bruins, based on the fact that nobody can sign over Suzuki contract. Don't expect him to sign a 10M contract when his contract will gonna finish.

First off, it's hard to see how you're going to overtake Pittsburgh and Washington when both teams are at least two games ahead of you and both teams have at least two games in hand and both teams have the tiebreaker RWs over you.

If the Canadiens have the 10th overall pick, it won't fetch Johnson or Zegras without a couple of A prospects.

There is a qualitative difference between a player who has proven himself in three or four NHL seasons and the potential of a high draft pick. The guy picked immediately after Z in 2019 was Vasily Podkolzin. The guy picked at #9 (Z's slot) the prior year was Vitali Kravtsov. The 2017 draft had disappointments at nos. 6 and 7. Alexander Nylander was #8 in 2016 and Tyson Jost was #10. The risk of trading Zegras or Johnson for a guy who doesn't pan out has a cost.

they did it with Drysdale... played great before is got injured... received Gauthier with no NHL experience

True but Gauthier was the fifth overall selection, so that should be factored into the discussion, as well as the fact that Drysdale is a defender and had a stop-and-start to his career; his 123 games at the time he was traded aren't very comparable to the 200 Z has played, either in number or performance.

Columbus is in the exact same boat. The exact same. We've perpetually lacked and continue to lack elite offensive producers, and when we get one (Panarin) then don't stick around. Since Johnson has that potential, there's just no chance we move him.

Maybe to select 4th & MTL pick #7... TOP LHD + TOP Forward like Eiserman, Lindstrom... or maybe Demidov! This would fit with Fantilli perfectly: a retool on the run

Maybe, but what's the ceiling on those guys? Demidov certainly should be elite, but he's gone by 2 or 3. Eiserman and Lindstrom seem like more question marks, top-line potential but might top out as a top-6 forward. If we're looking for that, we may as well keep the guy we already have who's 3 years along in his development. It's like choosing the mystery box when you could have the boat, that's why I don't think Columbus does that.
