You’re also getting 2 rental forwards in the deal? What is the value of that package in your mind?

Leafs want some depth on D. Carrier plays PP and PK. What is his return from the Leafs? Minton is the equivalent of a 2nd. Is Carrier not worth a 2nd?

Leafs need a top pair RD mostly. Leafs actually have very good depth on D. But they are missing a top end talent. If we settle for a guy like Carrier, I don't see the point. Carrier for a 2nd is reasonable.

Minten is easily worth a 1st round pick now though. His stock has gone up since being drafted. He will probably be NHL ready next year. He is looking like he will be a stud middle 6 - 2 way - forward, who is ultra competitive. I don't see the Leafs trading him unless it's in a package for Boone Jenner.

I don’t know about Trenin and Novak, but since we are getting guys back healthy, they probably aren’t needed here. My guess is Trenin gets around a 3rd and Novak somewhere between early 2nd and late 1st.

Saros alone is tricky. I don’t follow things as closely as you guys do, but my guess is that he is not moved until extension window opens in July. If an extension is not agreed upon, he will then be moved for a price similar to what Nashville got in Tomas Vokoun deal (1st, 2nd, 2nd).

If for some reason, Trotz decides to move him at deadline to NJD, I think the package would likely be centered around Alexander Holtz and either 1st round pick or Seamus Casey. It sounds like NSH wants a young center or RHD, and I don’t think we would be able to fill the center need as well as some of the competition (say, LAK with Turcotte). We don’t really have a good young center that is moveable (although Seamus Casey did play center for one game at Michigan).

So Carrier for a 2nd; I’d probably do that.

Leafs don't have any 2nd's right now. I also would rather go after a higher end guy. So I personally would pass. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone does a 2nd for Carrier.

I agree the goalie market it tough when it comes to valuations; however, it seems that the Devils could really use a true #1 upper echelon goaltender. Adding Novak to deal helps replace Mercer’s production, and adding Trenin gives you a gritty defensively responsible forward who can chip in some goals. Could be the adds that can lead to a deep playoff run; then you have Saros again for next year’s run.

Larsson out of Seattle is my number one target
Tanev out of Calgary is my number two target but I don't want to pay the price it will take to get him.
Walker would be my number 3 option.

Mercer is not a trade option though. Holtz may be available…his name is out there a bit this year.

Below is what I said I recent thread to another fan that asked about the two:

Mercer gets the 4th most ice time if any of our forwards. Plays wing and center. Plays defensive situations and offensive situations. Plays PK and PP. Plays in hard areas and in open ice. Has never missed a game. Is loved by teammates and coaches.

Holtz plays wing, has great offensive skills and instincts. Has struggled a bit with turnovers in bad areas at times. Is an elite shooter/finisher. Plays mostly fourth line minutes (to the frustration of many devils fans). While he is liked by our GM (and by Andrew Brunette last year), Lindy Ruff has never seemed to be a big fan. Result is he gets moved up and down lineup, and confidence swings are obvious.

Very different players and Mercer much more highly valued than Holtz for our needs. Holtz will probably end up putting up higher point totals, but is the guy we probably would be more likely to move. During Meier negotiations last year, Fitzy took Mercer off the table altogether. And when asked about Holtz, he reportedly said, “if Holtz, only Holtz”. San Jose opted for the larger package instead.

Panthers aren’t giving you mackie for nyquist. Maybe a second but not our last first round pick who’s shown promise.

We don’t need those extra pieces…NSH could sell them for more elsewhere.

I imagine Fitzy has offered Trotz a similar package to what he offered Calgary for Markstrom (and may have offered Anaheim for Gibson)….Holtz and Vanecek with some other pieces and/or picks depending how much salary is retained.

Thought you’d want some scoring depth for a run.

We need one cheap rw wife the 3rd line. Pacioretty is probably the best fit for us and cheapest but lundell is that line he shouldn’t be traded for older players or prospect who have no effect on the roster. Lundell has just had a rough first half but has actually started getting going again.
