Caps would love to get their hands on Chabot but doubt their 2024 first would be in play.

Also, keep Kelly and Kastelic, they're fine as 4th liners

Awful for Calgary

Wouldn't be that bad if they were rebuilding but with the Habs having their 1st next season, they shouldn't be doing that at all.

Markstrom didn't have much value before the season, yes he's been rebounding but still isn't worth the moon (goalies NEVER do)

So in a rebuild context, yes a downgrade in goal but get a 2nd and two more picks plus 2 young D-men (Brannstrom is good and JBD has shown some decent things)

Them rebuilding or not is irrelevant to the return being awful. Markstrom will cost a 1st+ in value but if you want to dump Korpi's albatross contract too it will cost another 1st

Also Calgary's 1st next year is top 10 protected as long as they get Florida's 1st

the penguins are sells they aren't buying anyone.

As for the Docker trade. I am not surprised to see him in trades already.
He was the 3rd or 4th best defenseman at ND, and his antics were really annoying. Word was he was not well liked by his teammates for attention seeking.
I'm not sure how it is in OTT with him, but I'm not shocked he's in trades at this point.
The one guy I'm surprised isn't at the NHL level yet is Kleven. He was so sneaky good in ND.
Something tells me OTT gonna have to make room for him soon. They probably trade out a LD soon.

I have seen this movie a million times, hockey fans in general overvalue goalie's returns like crazy. Yet, when you look at trade trackers, it's not compatible

What do you think Markstrom returns?

Here, he's returning 2nd + 4th + 7th + Brannstrom (good young 2-way D-man, still cost controlled) + JBD (young defensive D-man, worth maybe a 5th)

This is quantity sure, but quite more valuable than a late 1st round pick.

Like I explained already, no team would take Korpisalo right now if they want to compete, so the context would have to be the Flames rebuilding. As long as they're not, no way they'd something like this, even if the assets were more attractive

The plan for Kleven is to make the team next season, it's his first pro season and he only turned 22 y/o last month so no rush

The team is probably going to end up trading Brannstrom to give him a spot, at the draft or next season. It's not a bad thing because Sens have too many of the same, particularly on LHD so Kleven would bring a new aspect to the defense.

Didn't know this about JBD, he's ok. He's good at "survival defense" but not great at anything. It's not that everyone wants to get rid of him but Sens fans in general want a more physical defense

I don't think Markstrom will be traded at all but the current rumours in Jersey say Holtz and a 1st were on the table and Calgary has pushed for Mercer as the prospect.

So simply put, you aren't even in the same stratosphere

I never really cared about "rumors", it's a game for young hockey fans

Show me trades that happened in the real world.

Should we start listing some?

Jul. 27, 2021 : Marc-André Fleury for Mikael Hakkarainen
Mar. 21, 2022 : Marc-André Fleury for 2022 2nd round pick (MIN #57)
Jul. 8, 2022 : Ville Husso for 2022 3rd round pick (DET #73)
Jul. 7, 2022 : Alexander Georgiev for 2022 3rd round pick (COL #97) + 2022 5th round pick (COL #161) + 2023 3rd round pick (COL #91)

GTG but :

https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/transactions/goaltender/trade/

Very rarely, a team overpaid to get a good or even a top goalie and those are RARELY available

I'd be very surprised if Markstrom returned that but at the same time Devils might be desperate about solving their goalie issues

Not one of those trades is remotely comparable to a Markstrom trade lmao. Swing and a miss

GTG means "got to go" as I couldn't take more time on this lol. Then I linked the trade tracker for goalie trades for you to look up, like if it was a hard deduction to make tears of joy

These were NOT meant to be comparable, it is examples to show how goalies have very little value on the trade market.

Fleury is a future HOF goalie who had a 26-10 record and 0.928 SV% and was traded for a 24 y/o who was a 5th rounder and who will probably never play in the NHL

It was because of his contract? Well, he had one year a 7.0 AAV left. Markstrom is 34 y/o with 2 years at 6.0 AAV

Swing and a miss? lol

So let's go, your TURN to find some "comparables" then... how much is worth a 34 y/o goalie with 2 years at 6.0 AAV, a guy with a cumulative 0.908 over the last 4 seasons, during the life of his current contract
