If the hawks want Dakota Joshua so bad (they don't) they'll just wait for him to be a ufa.

That Chicago trade makes zero sense.

CHI has no business buying a 27 year old right now, unless they can play at the top of the lineup on a short term deal, and even that is a long shot. They aren't spending 2nd's on anything other than using them in the draft or trading up.

We need a much better prospect for Vatrano man especially with the pick being next year

Your proposal with the Hawks makes no sense, it says this is for the 2024-2025 season which means the Canucks will keep Joshua through the end of this season… at that point he is a UFA. Why would the Hawks or anyone else for that matter trade a 2nd round pick for a UFA?

You may get a team who is willing to send a 7th round pick to the Canucks for his rights, so they can start negotiating before July1st but there is no chance anyone is trading a 2nd round pick after the season has ended.

The premise appears to be that the Canucks sign Joshua to a new 4 year deal after the season and then trade him to the Hawks before the '24 draft. But yeah, Hawks aren't paying a 2nd for Joshua even with an extension. At least it wasn't Mikheyev to the Hawks for a pick this time!

Sure. But why would we trade anything for him with the stipulation of an extension being in place when we could just sign him in the summer? Because someone else might get to him first? Good for them them, if they do, but we'll take our chances in free agency rather than give up a 2nd round pick.

Again, I think the idea here is that the Canucks sign him to a 4 year, $3.5m AAV deal before free agency starts, so Joshua never becomes a UFA. But totally agree, the Hawks would never trade a 2nd for Joshua regardless.

Sign and trades are generally a negotiated process between both teams and the player, though. "We will give you a pick for him if he comes with an extension" type of thing. Either way, yeah, CHI isn't a team that's gonna bite on something like that.

Penguins pass - Penguins would rather have Puljujärvi more than Mikheyev.
Canucks are not trading Joshua, and they're not getting Vatrano.

That's an offer for Adam Henrique with 50% retention, not Frankie Vatrano with another season on the clock.
