People are trying to over complicate this by not valuing prospects appropriately. A 1st and a 2nd for Hanifan retained.

A rebuilding Detroit has no interest in a 34 year old Jacob Markstrom, And we're not giving up Marco Kasper for an aging Goalie. And besides i doubt he'd even waive his NMC for a young rebuilding team.

If they extend him first, the retention applies to all remaining salary. If he is traded at deadline he can still get 8-years for that club.

If you are taking Vanecek, I could see you getting an extra second. That wouldnt even be the equivalent of John Moore’s terrible contract, which basically funded Bergeron and the incremental money for Krejci. Trying to figure out the equivalent of Urho. It isn’t much.

You are getting a first and a second with retention. Maybe a fringe prospect that is basically a throwaway. That’s what Lindholm would have gotten without that bad contract added.

Yeah but your general base of comparison is Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark and the bruins haven’t had a bad goalie in like 2 decades so I think you have somewhat lofty expectations understandably

I'd say drop the 3rd to a later pick from the Vancouver and you have fair value

Kasper was 8OA in '22, and has scored like 20 points in his last 30 games after a slow start because he was injured for most of the summer.

No team would trade him nor goalie would return him unless it's an insane deal.
