Hanifin Deal With Secondary Prospects

Créé par: Celtics21
Équipe: 2023-24 Bruins de Boston
Date de création initiale: 12 févr. 2024
Publié: 12 févr. 2024
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
I don’t see Boston making this trade unless they covet knowing the salary slot for Hanifin for next years planning
Transactions
BOS
  1. Hanifin, Noah (2 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Only happens if there is concern that Hanifin signs elsewhere if traded
CGY
  1. Brunet, Frédéric
  2. Forbort, Derek
  3. Merkulov, Georgi
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (BOS)
  5. Choix de 3e ronde en 2026 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
If you view a first rounder as necessary, Boston moves to secondary prospects in Merkulov (who is a center prospect averaging a PPG in the AHL) and Brunet who is an interesting D prospect. The third round pick plus Brunet is the driver of retention. They can probably place Forbort on another team to save money.

Could substitute Grz for Forbort for 900k less.

You might run into trouble with the delay's on the picks but 1st+3rd+a pair of secondary prospects+Cap filler should be enough to get it done

Heh. Secondary prospects. And retention. And a deferred 1st. And a cap dump. Good luck with all that.

It's literally quite similar to what the lindholm deal looked like lmao, although forbort is much less of a cap dump than kuzmenko.

I've gone back and forth between Gryz and Forbort being the D to move and I think Gryz would be more likely. Forbort is just a big body that they tend to like as their 7th D in the playoffs but neither really inspires confidence when all is said and done

Lindholm got traded for a top prospect (recent first), Moore (dump), a first and two seconds.

The equivalent to this deal would be : Lohrei/Lysell + Forgot/Gyrz, 1st + 2 2nds.

Your trade doesn't have that value.

Vaak at the time of trade was not as valuable as Lohrei/Lysell. He was 23yr old, has already gotten a significant concussion. He was a pending RFA that was struggling to get time in Boston's line-up and didn't have a future with the team.

You can substitute Ian Mitchell for Frederic Brunet if you believe draft pedigree is more important. I’d rather have Brunet personally if I were Calgary, but completely OK doing that swap. Brunet was arguably in the top two defenders in the QMJHL last year. Substituting Mitchell would make the player the equivalent of Ukko as a comparable.

There is no cap dump the equivalent of John Moore in a cap constrained year. We are paying a bonus overage this year because we paid on a credit card last year. His inclusion basically made Bergeron / Krejci possible, which is why we paid the second 2nd round pick.

My perspective is you could flip Forbort or Grz with no cap implications to a third team. I’d personally think you’d rather have Grz to try an extend him, but have been told he’s of no interest. I don’t believe it, but I also believe he’d sign there if given an extension offer.

So then the open question is Merkulov and a 3rd worth a second?

It’s for 3 teams. I’d guess Winnipeg is on it, but who are the others?

Dude, it's not. If you're throwing five pieces at UFA Hanifin, you're just piling up quantity. And five teams easily top that offer if they want.

Moore was a legitimate AHLer:
Moore+2nd=0.

Vaak was nothing of meaning.
1st+2nd+Vaak

Forbort is a nothing move they could ship him somewhere for free (NJD would take him) and Calgary needs NHL caliber LD to get through the season.

It’s a slightly smaller offer but very similar and you’re looking at the absolute top of the rental market. Hanifin wants Boston which lowers the return (I’m not a Boston fan)

dude, it is. Find ONE...just one example of a trade where its a high end prospect and a first. usually its an okay prospect, a first, and a roster player.

notice, i didn't make this, so i'm not advocating for a 5 for 1 trade.

1st+Prospect+Cap Filler/Dump+Later Pick+Nothing prospect

You can argue a gap between Bruz and Merkulov, but it's a 3rd instead of a 4th and a much smaller cap dump.

Brunet scored 16 goals and 57 assists in the QJMHL. 73 points in 76 games and was I think the runner up for the defender of the year award behind Ducks prospect Tristan Laneau. He’s not played much in Providence in year 1, but looks like a boom or bust type prospect with upside. I’d argue he’s better than Joni Jurmo.

Huuuuuuuuuuuuge gap between Brzzy and Merkulov. Also, the 1st is deferred a year.

The 1st is deferred, and the prospect is not at same level. You may consider these small differences, but Calgary won't.

Next year is a better draft class with much more upside on what the pick could be. At this point there is no chance the Vancouver pick is anything higher than like 25th

Cap dump? $11M? Ehh nothing of that sort was in the trade. Moving cap to fit am acquisition is not the same thing as a cap dump, and Kuzy only has a year and change left, not two full years. And he scored in his first two games in Calgary. Kuzy was not a "cap dump", sir. He's a cap makeweight who is a rather useful player.

Interesting. I seem to remember a 6 million dollar, poor defensive, slow skater who used to be able to score at a high level. When a team (Calgary) wanted to move him out to bring in another acquisition it cost them a 1st.

Kuzmenko was a cap dump plain and simple.

If someone would have paid Vancouver assets for him they would have taken it in a heartbeat.

You do realize that Merkulov is outpacing Coronato statistically without having to basically take as many shots. While Brunet’s stat profile last year wasn’t as impressive as as Hunter’s this year, he did finish second in the QJMHL award for best defenseman while putting up 73 points in 76 games. I get it’s easy to criticize, but if you are going to continue to misvalue Lohrei … this is the type of deal you are looking at

Why do people act like they don't know what a cap dump is? Whatever, man. I'm so exhausted from conversing with Leafs fans who are completely detached from reality, I just don't have the energy for semantic squabbles over terms with actual definitions. Have a good one.
