2 Firsts

Description
Montreal has two firsts that could potentially be moved in Dach/Newhook type deals. Three players I feel they can take these firsts and target who are either on the outs with their teams, aren't being played in a position equal to their potential, or that aren't panning out in their current systems. Who would you target/think would be a good fit in Montreal's core.
Alternatively is there someone specific you would like to draft with these picks (I'm a fan of taking Henry Mews with the Winnipeg first this year if no trade is made).
To be clear, the offer for these players would start with the Winnipeg and Calgary firsts, yes I know they are worth more, as a fan I'd be happy to see the team pay more to acquire these players, I am simply starting the conversation by stating we have two extra firsts that could potentially be used to grab one of these players. Plz don't yell at me.

Personally, I wouldn't pay a 1st for Kakko, the other two for sure but I don't see Kakko as anything more than Armia and he is going to be looking for something north of Armia's deal

Kakko is still young, he's having a particularly bad year but he still has the potential to be an impact player. If anything he's in a better situation than Kirby Dach was when Montreal acquired him, it costed a first, and it went very well for Montreal.

5th season...he is all he can be, a bottom 6 player, barely a 3rd liner, hes had 1 good year out 5, he followed that good year with 7 points in 31 games a 18 point pace, he is a bust and a GM who spends more than a 3rd should be fired immediately.

MTl was dumb for giving 13th for Dach, we will see how he does next year since he is injured for the season.

MTL needs to stop throwing away firsts for 3rd liners hoping they can become top 6....

Lmao Armia’s best season came at age 26, only 10 goals 22 points in 58 games at 5v5

Kakko’s best season was last year at age 21, 18 goals 37 points in 82 games at 5v5

Great comparison! You really know your hockey 😂

LMAO, this is the kind of comment that is stupid, Zegras isn't worth a top 10 pick + Slaf + Newhook or Dach. Would you pay Carlsson + the Ducks 1st + McTavish or Zegras for Suzuki?! No you wouldn't cause he isn't McDavid. What has Zegras done to be worth the equivalent of 3 1st round picks? Give your head a shake, Zegras is worth at max Habs 1st (in the 7th-10th OVA range) + Mesar + Farrell and as discussed on an earlier thread It only makes sense for both sides if the forwards Montreal want are all gone when the draft and Levshunov is still on the board.

I didn’t realize 18 goals 37 points at 5v5 3rd line minutes is classified as a non-NHLer 😂

I wasn't comparing scoring, just playing styles. Both are former 1st round picks who have struggled to find their offensive games but both are great possession players and good on the defensive side of the puck. Kakko is quickly becoming a 3rd liner with 0 chance of playing higher up the lineup just like Armia. It wasn't meant as an insult, I like good defensive 3rd liners who can put up points and retrieve pucks, I just wouldn't pay a 1st for them

I disagree as long as it's not top 5 and all of Lindstrom, Demidov, Eiserman and Celebrini are gone, I would want to get a young NHL impact forward who already has great chemistry with Caufield

Kakko is only struggling to find his offense because he’s always in the doghouse for some reason, not to mention Kreider and Mika aren’t the best at 5v5. And rangers 2nd powerplay gets the leftover 30 seconds which is nothing

Kakko’s main problem is creating offense for himself. Big body, uses it to protect the puck but refuses to drive to the net ever. He’s been shooting more and noticed he has quite a hard shot

Depends on what NJD can do with the picks.

If we can turn them+our pick into an elite goalie like Swayman, sure.

Or a quality LD.

I'd be open to a Guhle-Holtz swap. Or a montembault++ for Holtz deal.

Or again, depends on what the picks can get us. If I could package Holtz for picks then ship them to boston for Swayman I'd do it.

Otherwise unless it gets us an asset like that I think NJD keeps holtz.

And something I know MTL wouldn't go for but I would send Holtz+1st for Slaf

First, you are buying into a bunch of rumors started by Frank Seravalli, a guy who is right about the Ducks about as often as I spend the night with Victoria's secret models. (In case you can't figure that one out, I'm a guy arguing on the Internet about hockey, I don't land Victoria's secret models)

If the relationship between Zegras and the organization/Verbeek was really so fractured that Verbeek was looking to dump Zegras, he would have traded his signing rights, not signed him to a contract. If Zegras felt so slighted by the organization that he refused to play there, he would have refused to sign and demanded a trade. He didn't, he signed a 3 year deal. You don't do that when the relationship is so deteriorated that you can't see eye to eye. So he's clearly not so "on the outs" with the organization.

As far as fitment into a system, Cronin is incredibly excited to work with Zegras, and the big point that everyone and their mother knows is that the org wants him to work on his two way game. If you'd watched any games this season with Z in them, you'd see he's become a relentless forchecker. He's fitting the system fine and his defensive IQ is developing fine. He'll never get Selkie votes, but he's also not a liability anymore than his teammates are. "Oh, but what about that time Cronin benched him" yeah, it happened once to send a message, Z got the message. McTavish has been benched and demoted to the third line half a dozen times this season and yet everyone's talking about the one time Z got benched.

"But Verbeek traded his best buddy Drysdale and is clearing house of Murrays guys!" Wrong, Anaheim has ended up with an embarrassment of riches in puck moving D, something we didn't have when we drafted Drysdale. Mintyukovs emergence as PPQB 1 while Drysdale was injured made him more expendable. We.never had the defense first D-man to allow Drysdale to play his game since we traded Lindholm away, he's in a better spot in Philly for him, and the reason why Verbeek got Gauthier is because Gauthier scores, a lot. We desperately need more scoring from our forwards. Zegras was 2nd on the team in points his full rookie season and first last season, for a team who needs more offense, why would you trade away the guy who usually leads the team there?

"Zegras's value has never been lower" and? You're expecting us to sell low on him? We don't need his cap space opened up, we're not in a cup push, and he's signed for two more seasons AFTER this AND we have his RFA rights after this contract is up. We're not going to gift anyone Zegras, he's an incredibly high value asset as he's a great player, more valuable than Cole Caufield, so if you wouldn't trade Caufield for what you want to offer for Zegras, then we're not going to give Zegras up for that.

Slafkovsky straight up, Reinbacher + MTLs 25 2nd, or MTLs 24 1st (~6OA) + Beck level prospect are what it takes to acquire Zegras.

Through 49 games of Slaf and 20 games of Z having a "Horrible" season, Zegras and Slaf were scoring at the same pace. That's this year.

Reinbacher is a prospect that MTL reached for at 5 because they needed RHD, they drafted for need, not BPA. Comparable is the Gauthier trade.

Don't want to use either of those assets, fine, look at the Dach trade as a comparable. MTL gave up 13 OA plus a third for a mis developed, injury prone rehab project. Zegras is far more valuable than Dach was at time of acquisition, and it's not that good of a draft this year, so it'll cost a top 10 pick and a Beck level prospect.

just because MTL was dumb enough to trade 13th for dach does n ot make Zegras worth a top 10 pick or a formers 1st OA in his 2nd season or a former 5th OA.
