Perfect Deadline

Créé par: TMLBRIAN
Équipe: 2023-24 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 9 févr. 2024
Publié: 9 févr. 2024
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Larsson as our top pair RD for this year and next
Tanev as our 2nd pair RD for this year (possible short term extension)
Jenner as a very good middle 6 forward. We can create a proper defensive line in our bottom 6 and a proper offensive bottom 6 line also. He would be a great addition for this year and 2 more.

Small cap move would need to be made here but it is more than doable.

Acquisition costs on the other hand to get this done would be astronomical.

Do you view this team as a cup contender? With these moves, I sure do!

Haha our cupboard would be BARE if all this happens.

Lily for Tanev

1st + Niemela + 3rd for Larsson (add Reaves for cap reasons?)

1st + Minten + 3rd for Jenner (add Sammy for cap reasons?)

Something on those lines.

Well, if Jenner were available (which we have credible local reports that state he is NOT plus no less than Elliott Friedman also saying he was not on the block in the most recent 31 Thoughts), you've got to outbid at the very least Colorado and Boston for his services and any number of other teams who might like to upgrade 2C for that sweetheart contract, and you have to hope he's willing to waive to go to Toronto if you're on his NTC (he might be from Dorchester but he's also extremely lowkey and I could absolutely see him wanting to avoid the Toronto media circus). In a vacuum, a first and an A prospect probably does it, but there's extenuating factors that drive up the price from there, the most important of which is that Columbus is simply not inclined to move him.

But of course, what do I know? I'm only a Blue Jackets fan, and everyone knows Leafs fans know better.

Leafs need the defenseman more than they need Jenner, in my opinion. Focus on Tanev or Larsson.

It's definitely a contender IMO. Datadrivenhockey on Insta released some power cards today for the top-6 in their power rankings, just to point out that this year's contenders have at least one or two major flaws. It's one of those "'just make the playoffs, anything can happen' years" (to quote the post).

For example, Vancouver doesn't generate a lot of good chances (even though they're fantastic at finishing), Boston doesn't either, and they also don't suppress shots well. Goaltending and finishing are issues in Edmonton, and the scoring and special teams are struggle areas for Winnipeg.

This is a pretty well-rounded roster, especially if Woll comes back and performs like he was earlier in the year. Obviously it does strip the team of all futures, though...maybe Tanev re-signs? The other two have term, so you get two cracks at it minimum.

Absolutely. If Tanev resigned 2 years 3.5m or so, I would be happy. I wouldn't want a 3rd year on it though.

I made this AGM with costs as well:

In it we would at least still keep Easton Cowan haha. But we have no 1sts, 2nds or 3rds and we trade Minten and Niemela. This would be AGGRESSIVE!

Definitely agree they need dman more than Jenner but the Leafs could benefit from Jenner or to a lesser extend Laughton quite a bit. It will help their middle 6 ALOT.

2026 1st (top 10 protected) + Minten + 2024 3rd + Reaves (for cap) for Jenner is my trade proposal. Minten would be a great add for Columbus.

Lily for Tanev.

Not even close. It'd take Lily and the Leafs 2024 1st. Better you keep Lily and make it Leafs 2024 1st + either Timmons or a 3rd.
