Canucks decline. Someone should probably have interest in Anderson at 50% retention, that's roughly what he's worth. Won't be Vancouver though, Anderson would be a terrible fit for Tocchet's system and would probably end up in the same position as Kuzmenko being a healthy scratch due to his lackluster defensive play.

Jim Benning no longer works here. If you want Anderson to come to Vancouver you're going to have to pay assets to move him here, ala Monahan to MTL.

Even at 2.75M, he's still overpaid by nearly 2M.

Best if you just keep him while you rebuild anyway.

That's terrible, Canucks paying assets to downgrade their roster player. Sure they save cap, but Anderson stinks.

Mikheyev is a defensive force, a little things king, and an absolute speedster, Anderson is an anchor in human-form.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but Anderson's skillset is the following:

Great goalscorer; doesn't provide much value offensively outside of goalscoring (not a great passer, not great at cycling, not great awareness, etc.)
Bad defensively
Great physicality, plays with an edge but doesn't cross the line like some guys
Big body

Tocchet has a system that is focused on both sides of the puck. He likes forwards who can contribute in both ends. Specifically, he likes guys who can provide value in a number of ways offensively while playing a defensively sound game. He likes forecheckers and guys who play hard with their heart and leave it all out on the ice. Anderson doesn't provide a ton of value offensively outside of goalscoring and would probably become a stationary pylon in the offensive zone under Tocchet. He also is simply not good defensively, and we just saw a near 40-goal scorer in Kuzmenko be healthy scratched and eventually traded due to his lackluster effort and bad defensive play.

Simply put, I just don't think Anderson would be a fit for Tocchet's system due to his defensive play and I think the chance that his defensive play and relative one-dimensional offensive profile would put him in the exact same position as Kuzmenko as he is a relatively similar player in those senses, the only difference is Kuzmenko is better offensively while Anderson is bigger and more physical. However, they both share the shortcoming of poor defensive play, and defensive capability and responsibility for all players on the ice is a major part of Tocchet's system.

He's been on bad teams for the last 6 yrs. While he's not the best on 200ft game, he can back up, play pk if needed, and start the transition. The guy needs better partners.

I love how other fans bash Anderson but would be surprised how the guy offers a second effort and even tries to block or break play in the neutral zone. Defensively he's not a wreck either. Our team is ba at managing gap space and stick lines. Our system is also a mix of man-to-man which is a hell to play with so many ahler or rookies. Anderson deserves a better understanding

Maybe he does, but Mikheyev is head and shoulder better than him defensively, and is one of the fastest skaters in the entire league, and contributes more offensively. Why would the Canucks be paying to exchange him for Anderson? Anderson has the edge in physicality and net-front offense, but that's it. Mikheyev is way better in every other facet.

That could very well be. Sometimes guys are on bad teams, people think they're bad players, but they get dealt to better teams and break out. Other times people think think they'll break out if they get dealt, then they do and they still aren't good.

You're giving up assets for what could be a great middle 6 forward at slightly below market value if things work out, but you're also risking taking on a near $3M healthy scratch for 4 years if things don't work out. For a cap strapped team like Vancouver, the risk associated with Anderson simply isn't worth the reward, especially after we had to deal a near 40 goal scorer in Kuzmenko as a cap throw in due to things not working out after handing out a big contract based on a small sample size and perceived play.
