Don't see the ducks trading vatrano for that. Not with the season he is having the the roll he has with the team.

Where's the 1st round pick heading to Anaheim for the 50% retention on Frank Vatano? Considering that Detroit is heavily linked to him and doesn't need retanrion.

The Henriksson-and-Jones-for-Vatrano exchange has been suggested before, and we reject again for the same reasons we rejected it earlier: Henriksson is small and left-handed, and Jones is a LhD; our needs are at RW and RhD. Given the paucity of decent prospects at those positions in your pool (other than Gabe Perreault, who obviously is out of the question), I think that it's hard to construct a trade with New York that works. About the closest I've come is Ryder Korczak plus your 2024 first -- unless you want to give up Braden Schneider, which also seems impossible.

OldNYIfan - what do you think about Henrique (50%) and Vatrano for 2024 2nd, 2025 1st, Ryder Korczak & Brody Lamb (20 year old RW prospect at University of Minnesota - reserved list).

That's an entirely reasonable and realistic possibility. I had noticed Lamb in the prospect pool before. But as someone in a similar thread has noted, NY may prefer to have retention on Vatrano, too, so that would cost extra.

Drury might want retention on Vatrano but for 2 years, that is going to have a pretty significant cost attached to it. I hope he wouldn't do something like that.

Agreed it would cost for the added retention. I’ll respectfully disagree with the return you and OldNYI chatted about though. While Ryder and Lamb fit the RW need, neither is quite the caliber of prospect where I see it making sense for ANA to let Vatrano go right now, let alone with any retention. He has massive value to Ana both in production and their locker room, and neither of them are trending toward being a top 6 NHL RW right now (or even middle 6 necessarily).

I’d argue this just isn’t at all enticing enough to Vatrano go this year, I see no reason they wouldn’t just wait another year to the next TDL for a bit less than this year’s value if this is the best offer ANA got

Agree with Frankie having massive value to Anaheim both on ice production and in the locker room.

Just focusing on the Vatrano, the return might not be enticing but it goes both ways. He is playing in a top 6 role and his shooting percentage is highest in his career hence a career year thus far so his value is sky high. If Verbeek believes this to continue, then he holds out for a potentially greater return closer to March 8th. What happens if the opposite is true, what if Zegras and Killorn come back and Frankie gets pushed down a line, or his shooting % drops, gets hurt, etc his value might be much lower next TDL. All of this is a gamble for both GM's. The goal is to find a common ground where both teams are happy with the result.

Then at the very worst we will get to keep a still productive middle 6 winger who is a very positive influence for all of the young kids on the team, and we’ll take back a materially smaller return next deadline. That’s not really a scenario I’d be worried about in the least.

A first and 2 prospects who aren’t really trending to be quality top 9 NHLers just doesn’t cut it for our most productive forward on an incredibly friendly deal (that could be further retained) when worse-producing pending UFA forwards are netting basically the same return
