Description

Byram doesn't have the space to blossom behind Makar and Toews. Additionally, he has been prone to injuries since he’s been in the NHL. In my opinion, Colorado wouldn't be opposed to the idea of trading their young defenseman, especially if another defenseman comes their way and can play immediately. Struble, being more cost-effective, strengthens the Avalanche blue line for the playoffs, and Monahan is an excellent rental player. Calum Ritchie, a second-tier prospect, is also included in the trade to balance everything.

Based on what we've seen with the Elias Lindholm trade, I believe the value is justified and balanced on both sides.

Former #4 pick, on a good contract + the top Center prospect in the Avs system for
A C on an expiring contract, who is slow, is overachieving with his highest shooting % in 4 years and hasn't played a full season since 2016 + a high teens / low 20s prospect in the MTL system.

a) As an Avs fan also, Avs won't touch Byram,
b) Byram can 'blossom' just fine behind Makar and Toews,
c) Colorado's real problem is knowing what to do with Girard IMO (I've been saying for 2 years he is overpaid and overplayed)
d) Even for Mtl I wouldn't take this. We have too many injury problems to keep taking inury prone players. Enough already, we are risked out.

Your assessment on the Avs players is way off. Byram is a top 4 dman at 22. That's an extremely valuable asset. And Ritchie is not a second tier prospect.

Colorado wouldn't trade either of them for this package let alone both.

Edit: If either were actually available for a rental, Lindholm would be in Colorado right now.

Woah this is way off.

Even if the Avs wanted to trade Byram (which may happen in the offseason for a much better package), downgrading so heavily to Struble would be untenable. Montreal has a lot of young defensemen and you chose to offload like… the least valuable one lmao.

Also, your assessment of Ritchie is asinine lol. He is the Avs best prospect. Just was selected in the first round and is having a very productive D+1. If he is a second tier prospect, so is every prospect in the Montreal system (except like Reinbacher).

MTL fans need to seriously stop with the insane Monahan values. Theoretically, a team in cup contention in need of a center could give up a 2024 first as it will likely be late round and closer to a high 2nd. Beyond that, any GM would be borderline crazy to chase Monahan that hard.

COL might take Monahan if they saw him as a clear upgrade over Ryjo, but they would need to move Ryjo. Why would you have two similar players at the same position (neither of which fits the AVS style well)?
