They already have an effective shutdown checking line of Rasmussen/Copp/Fischer.

Feels like an overpayment for a 35 year old goalie signed for 3 more years and a middle-6 forward on the wrong side of 30 with another year left. I bet the Canes will just keep KK, he's not overpaid, and its still so young that the long term deal is a steal

I would take it. We are currently 30th in the league for hits. They don't need to play much, just lay some hurt.

im not at all saying that's a good trade that either side would take but calling Brock Nelson a middle six forward might just be the dumbest take I've heard in a while.

Yeah, rather have Martin & Clutterbuck as extra guys over Czarnik. Can plug those guys in against physical teams.

Are you ok? lol. A 35-40 goal center is a middle 6 forward but a center making 4.8 mill with 18 points in 47 games is a fair contract ???

Cool - he's a second line center that can handle top-line shifts. He's not playing ahead of Aho in Carolina- second line.

We know lou isn’t selling. He can’t really. Add in islanders can’t retain in 24-25 with limited cap space to improve the team.

    My suggestion(s):

Talk to Columbus about a Laine swap built around JGP, Palmieri and some futures. Columbus isn’t getting a good haul for laine. So they get a center they need, take on a bad contract in KP and get some futures (A 1st plus). NYI get an offensive player and save on some cap space.

Or just approach Columbus about a JGP + a small piece for Roslovic. Then flip roslovic to a buyer at the deadline with retention. Now you have 5 million more in space for 24-25.

He’s a top line center that can handle top line workload. He has out produced Aho at 5v5 over the last 3 seasons

You currently have a 3rd line center who can’t handle 2nd line minutes

Drury has been just fine filling in as a 2C... there is no need to overpay for a center who's going to fall off a cliff soon
Aho plays in a much more defensively focused system which suppresses everybody's offense at 5v5 and if you put Aho on the Isles he probably out-produces Nelson by quite a fair bit at 5v5

I think it was just one, granted I didn't look into it too much. I think it was a suggestion in an article from a Canadian news outlet that spread quickly on social media. Not sure how legitimate it is though since rumors are just that, rumors.

Nelson is significantly better. Also having a guy who has been a consistent 30-40 goal scorer the past 3 years, and would be for the past 5 years if not for COVID and an injury, is better than Drury. Not to mention he has shown no signs of regression and has this year and one year after that on his deal. Saying that he is going to fall off a cliff is wild considering the player you are talking about. Also the entire trade isn't just for Brock Nelson. Semyon Varlamov would be a starter for the Canes. Kotchetkov has been inconsistent. Yes, he was hot just recently but with young goalies, you never know when they might get cold again. Look at Stewart Skinner for example.

Drury is less than .5 ppg and can’t generate offense. He’s nowhere close to being a capable 2c.

Where is the evidence that Nelson is going to fall off a cliff? He has this year and next left on his deal and he’s currently scoring at a 40 goal pace while playing with 2 3rd liners.

Aho plays with much better players , system doesn’t really have an impact on players, it’s more quality of teammates so you’re wrong

Drury has produced at a rate of 2.21 p/60 at 5v5 since December that's a fine rate

"Where is the evidence that Nelson is going to fall off a cliff?"- He's 32 and father time is a thing... I don't think he's gonna defy time like Brent Burns

"Aho plays with much better players , system doesn’t really have an impact on players, it’s more quality of teammates so you’re wrong" - Except for the last month the two best forwards other forwards than him (Andrei Svechnikov, Martin Necas) almost always played on the second line with KK. System does have a massive effect on play especially at 5v5... The Hurricanes are much more of a point-shot team than the Islanders are

Nelson is significantly better... than Drury yes... than Aho no. Varlamov would be the starter with the Canes but I'm concerned about his age. My concern with Nelson falling off a cliff is that he's 32 and that starts to be the age when stuff tends to fall off a cliff
