I think the only trade that anyone likes is that that the Pens would be ok with the Theodore deal. No one else is really getting anything they want or need.
From NJ, the Pens get another set of interchangable depth guys with questionable ability to stay on an NHL roster and on overpaid goalie they don't need. The Devils get 5 more full years of a guy that just left as a UFA and probably gets in the way of giving ice time to Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec.
The Buffalo deal is honestly just another hoop to jump through to make the other deals work. No need to do it if the others don't work. We don't need to play 4D chess here.
As for the Montreal deal, that's just us throwing quantity at them for guys that aren't really all that interesting. Monahan's offense would be a welcome addition to the bottom 6, but his defense has been so lackluster this season that I don't think replacing Eller with him is necessarily an improvement. And no contender is going to have Jake Evans on their 3rd line. I'd rather give his spot to Poulin and see if he finally sticks in the NHL like Puustinen has.
Shea Theodore is currently injured, but he has 18 points in 20 games, was their best defensemen during their cup run, and QBs their power play. Giving them an original misfit back and our top D prospect isn't going to make them better right now. Why should Vegas even consider that?
