His ELC expired as a 10.2(c), so he couldn't have been offer sheeted.

Oh yeah, forgot about that lol

I guess Pinto decided to bet on himself...

Must have gone to the Calvin Ridley school of how to be a professional sports athlete... Jokes end here, I promise...

I wonder what he'll get next year though

we'll see how the rest of his season progresses but he had a great game against philly today. ottawa is just too far out to make a legit run this year.

Ottawa is the biggest joke in the league... They have massive deals witht their Core that has shown that they are not a core that can lead a team... Theres always the next year and new low

its not surprising in the least a pro athlete was "gambling", especially in today's day and age, like what'd he do? place a prop bet on his boy brady to get 3+ sog? or was he betting theyd lose and playing bad on purpose? i have a feeling it wasn't that bad... it just seemed like such an over-exaggerated suspension to set a precedent

It is ironic that Corry Perry and Shane Pinto were the two most recent signings in the NHL. Pinto was suspended for 41 games due to gambling issues in a sport where a gambling website advertises on his team's helmet. Corey Perry was suspended until he stopped being front page news.

Pinto had no leverage. Sens could have held out from giving him a contract the rest of the season to keep additional control. Signing a league minimum contract is a fair deal for both sides.

I know that, but it's still funny...

I think Dorion had a part in his suspension though

I don’t know about that but it was certainly convenient for the team that they were unable to sign him before the suspension. I wonder if they knew it was coming. I knew nothing about it until it was announced, but I don’t live in Ottawa. There must have been an investigation before the league decided to suspend him.

I think one of the main reasons they did this was that the team was for sale. Having key players signed long term provides more certainty for the buyer, which makes the team worth more.

Apologies for the gambling analogy, but I think it’s usually a better bet to sign a player in his early 20s to a long-term contract hoping he’ll get better than hoping a player in his late 20s can go 8 more years without a significant decline, as certain other teams have done. With these long-term contracts you’re going to win some and lose some, but another thing that makes the young players less risky is you can buy them out before their 26th birthday for only 1/3 of the remaining contract value (assuming no signing bonuses), half the cost of buying out an older player with the same contract. I’ll be surprised if Ottawa does that with any of their core though.

I think it's convent that the one player who didn't sign a contract before the season with Ottawa, ends up getting popped with 41 games...

Or at least tipped the NHL off about what's going on...

Don't really dive into conspiracy theories... But somebody have to have told the NHL to at least investigate Pinto, right?
