(NJD/SJS) - Vanecek, 2025 7th (NJD) for Kähkönen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Bad move by Grier imo. I guess nobody else was interested in Kaapo, but they should have received far more than a 7th for swapping Goalies, especially for one with a Higher Cap Hit and additional year of term. Grier should have requested a couple 4th Round Picks over just a measly 7th
I bet Kaapo doesn’t fair any better statistically in NJD either, so it’s not an upgrade, it’s more of a move to dump Vitek</div></div>
Kähkönen had better statistics than Vanecek in way worse team.... GAA oever 10 goals better than Vanecek, 89,5%-->89% save percentage,

Kähkönen has been amazing this year+ the team has been garbage fire.... So Kähkönen is easily a 1B option next year if Markström deal is happening during the summer

Chicago Blackhawks signed Petr Mrázek (2 Years / $4,250,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jco5ta5</b></div><div>I think most of his trades and seemingly a lot of his top 3 round draft picks (not including Bedard) have been top 10 in league compared to peers. These veteran, lockerroom, depth signings I could not care less about. I’m much more concerned with and will judge him on his extensions of Vlasic, Reichel, and Raddysh. One is beyond expectations and two are having worse years than anticipated. This is how to better judge him, IMO. He’s very clear and transparent on his plan and he’s stuck with it.
Not sure how he makes a bottom 5 GM list. Seems you’re not including the facts of his asset accumulation, quality of drafted players, building one of the best prospect pools in the league and still having 5 1sts and 8 2nd round picks to go in next 3 years.
After next season, Hawks only have 2 forwards, 2 Dmen, and a goalie signed. He has a complete clean slate to build his team. Judge him then but now is too early.
What would be your master plan?</div></div>
His given basically a plank check to every moderately good player in his team in the next contract negotiations. Reichel will now be asking at least 4M, Vlasic same or more, damn even Zaitsev can demand maybe even more than his current contract... Not suprised if Beauvillier would get the same when he is 1m guy....

Binnington is dirty... He takes cheap shots and because his a goalie he can get away with it... This year has been a quiet one but there is 5-10 cases every season when he does this or does some other annoying crybaby thing. Also his been rubbish the season after said cup run

Kadri... He was dirty when he was younger I don't know about now... famous clip of Sid calling him a joke, I was watching that game live, he was throwing them high bows
Zegras is just annoying I don't care about him enough to hate him
Binner isn't dirty is he? i respect that Cup run
and legit I believe Pinto was a scapegoat so if you hate on him, gimme the deets of what he did
Gauthier went about that all wrong and I lost all respect for him, even though i clearly don't like the Flyers at all. he's like Zegras, basically irrelevant, but what pretentiousness eh?
So yeah, IDK about 8 legit ones.
But tom wilson... he's the dirtiest guy I've ever seen play BY FAR... and anyone in the Metro who has had to watch him try to hurt people in the playoffs knows this
Lots of people say Perry is dirty, so his reputation proceeds itself

For example the Oilers have 30,6m tied in three players where has it got them.</div></div>
Toronto has one, one playoff round win in the last how many years. Edmonton has. Checks my facts, last 2 years Conference Semi-Finals and Conference Finals. So they use less money than Toronto on their top3 players and better success...

Minnesota Wild signed Marcus Foligno (4 Years / $4,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DennisIN</b></div><div>Yes, 4m for four years is risky.
However, I think Foligno brings a lot more to the table than just grit. He is a leader and motivator and well respected in the locker room.
With Rossi moving up the depth chart Foligno might end up playing with Ek again. The GREEF line was one of the best defensive lines in the NHL the year before last year. Greenway can easily be replaced by someone else.
Foligno was injured for most of last year and seems fit in training camp. In the worst case he will end up in LTIR towards the end of the contract.
With the salary cap increasing and the penalties coming off the books the overall risk is not as big as people are saying. The Wild will have plenty of prospects on ELC or bridge deals meaning that spending 4m in a role player with grit and offensive upside is affordable.
In a time in which raw skill is as high as it is now in the league players that not only bring physicality will be valued. Just consider how much Tampa gave up for Jaenott.</div></div>
"salary cap rising" is not a valid argument in bad contracts... This is a bad contract. Cap going up is still only maybe, before it really happens anyway...

All the people saying that this contract will look good in year 2-4 are so weird... Basically you are saying that they could have made basically an identical deal next year when Sanderson would have played 100+ games so there would be a bigger sample size... So less risk.
Lets say he would make 60p next season, he wont, but for arguments sake lets say that... Then he would cost max 8,5m per year for 8 years... Every other scenario he would get the same deal (or less) next year... Stupid to make this kind of a deal after 77 games played. He will propably not be a bust but there is a risk of it.
There is no major upside of making this deal

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>Miro doesn’t generate more offense than Bouchard, miro put up more points because he got more ice time.
Bouchard first few months were arguably better than his last 2-3 months - the only difference is he saw a huge bump in ice time the 2nd half and got put on PP1. Bouchard has been an elite generator of offense for the last 2 seasons, he was always bound to break out in terms of points with more ice time.
Yeah and if you go by points per 60 he’s in the top 20.
Offense just isn’t about production. There’s many other factors.</div></div>
Heiskanen had more points than Bouchard when you look the last 2,5months of the season... Your argument about Heiskanen had more ice time, hence more points is also not valid. Heiskanen had more points per 60min, Heiskanen 2,55P/60min> Bouchard 2,17p/60min And Heiskanen didnt have Draisaitl and McDavid playing with him... Also Heiskanen is better in defence also...

Why would they retain that much for the next 4 years? This gives them alot of moves to make in 24 onwards. either keep getting more prospects or then try to get a good player in the UFA market... That would be impossible with retaining that much salary

Washington Capitals signed Tom Wilson (7 Years / $6,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jr400</b></div><div>I suspect the team knows this contract is not likely to age well, but they went for it anyway for a few reasons:
1) I’m not sure they’re on a path to contend for another cup before Ovechkin retires, but if that’s their goal, they need Wilson and would give him whatever it took to keep him from going to free agency, where he would be in high demand barring some disaster between now and then.
2) After Ovechkin retires, they’ll be starting a long rebuild, so they don’t care if they’re saddled with a bad contract then. Cap space in the early years of the contract is more important, so better to go long term with a lower AAV than what it would cost to sign him short term.
3) His recent injury history doesn’t concern them too much, because if things get worse he could qualify for LTIR, which would free them from this bad contract.
The thing I think they’re likely to regret most is the big signing bonuses in the last two years, which effectively eliminate the possibility of a buyout. This makes me think the team just rolled over and gave him whatever he asked for. It also tells me that even Wilson doesn’t think he’ll be worth anywhere near what they’ll be paying him by then. Otherwise he could potentially benefit from a buyout by signing another contract somewhere else that would pay him more than what he lost from the buyout.</div></div>
They could have waited to next year and even then he would have gotten the same, max. More likely a lot less because his coming back after an injury... Ovie is less good than last season so that wont help him, the team is worse than last year also... So why to this deal now? Even if the cap goes upp this is a way too much money

Honestly, I would be more concerned that it is effectively buyout proof for the team holding it the last few seasons.
Will be fine throughout Ovi's competition window assuming Wilson doesn't completely fall off a cliff. After that? Might be a bit scuffed as the kids say.</div></div>
In what world Wilson is a 3rd liner in year 2026 for instance? He is max an okay 4th liner then. So it is a bad deal. And what competition window? IS it that important to a team that a player makes most goal in NHL history? This team is barely a Playoff team next year

(NJD/CBJ) - Severson for 2023 3rd (CGY)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>darthsummer</b></div><div>Maybe you’re right, but it makes no sense to burn contract years while not using Jiricek. He doesn’t have much to prove in Cleveland.
Injuries notwithstanding, I’m expecting CBJ to target a lineup something like:
Werenski-Boqvist
Provorov-Severson
Jiricek-Gudbranson
Blankenburg+2nd defender (hopefully Bean)
Too much spent on Gudbranson to not use him. Yes, I know that puts two RD in the third pairing, but that’s how most of the last two years were spent. If they have a trade lined up, then great. Not so much of they’re trading Bean. Injuries have robbed him of playing a full season of games; they’d get pennies on the dollar. Bjork/Berni are backup plans, but the past has proven treating Europeans so disposable will lead to at least one of them returning home to play. My gut tells me Peeke will be traded back home as well, but that’s stateside. The Panthers’ surprise run cooled talk of their weaknesses, but Jarmo and his old protégé Bill Zito will swing something. (In my dreams, it’s an epic deal reuniting Laine with Barkov in Columbus, but as capital goes out the door, I realize the unrealistic nature. Still, it’s Tkachuk’s team now…maybe time for Barkov to get a fresh start?)
Mateychuk, Ceulemans, and Svozil all need another year of seasoning, but I would like to see one moved before desperation hits and while valuation is still at a peak. The rest project to be fillers (Knazko) or AHL talent (Christiansen, Bjørgvik Holm, Sweezey).
All of that said, I’m not overly fond of the trade for CBJ, and not just because they were paying for UFA rights. These are the types of middling moves that keeps a middling team forever at the middle of the pack, hoping to make the playoffs, hoping to win one series.
Instead, look at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd they just sent out the door. Now add Mateychuk or Ceuelmans. You have a starting point for an Erik Karlsson trade. Better yet, include Gudbranson and Merzlikins and tell SJS they don’t have to retain a dime on Karlsson. Not saying it’s all the way there—I’d try to include maybe three more 2nds/3rds and Bemström before conceding another 1st—but the framework is there. That (and/or Barkov) would actually move the needle.
Okay, I’ve said (almost) all I have to say. As long as CBJ/NJD were dealing, some form of Roslovic & Robinson for the other Boqvist would have made sense. Okay, now I’m done. For now.</div></div>
Tkachuk was good the first 2 rounds, but its clear that the team is Barkovs team.... There is no GM that would take Tkachuk over Barkov...
