The next step is continued patience.
The only pressure point right now is unladening our surplus of LHD, which preferably involves adding a potential scoring forward.
Newhook and Anderson will have their opportunity to assert themselves on the 2nd line next season with a healthy Dach.
This will likely be Anderson's last opportunity to prove he can be an effective producer in this team's system.
Newhook will have a longer leash, but will need to start showing whether he is a top 6 contributor or more likely to end up as a 3rd liner.
Those opportunities won't be there if we add an NHL ready top 6 option immediately.
If the right deal comes along for an NHL ready top 6 winger, you can add them to the competition for a 2nd line spot, but there's no rush for a Zegras or Johnston if it's going to cost us a higher end asset like a top 10 1st or Hutson.
As much as I like Struble and the possibility of Engstrom becoming a staple, our offense needs a threat from the back end and we have to determine if that is Hutson before we even consider moving him.
Same for Barron. We need to stick with him until we can confidently define where he fits, even if it means he doesn't make it and loses all value.
When we move Monahan, Matheson, Savard, Harris, etc., we will have expendable assets towards targeting a forward without dipping into our high end prospects/picks.
I'd take Johnston, but there are a few players that are a hard no to moving and Hutson is one of them.
