Semi serious Zegras trade

Transactions
MTL
  1. Zegras, Trevor
Détails additionnels:
I've seen Anaheim fans talking about Zegras has lost his spot to Carlsson and McTavish in the teams future top 2 center spots and that he'll need to start playing winger if he wants to play top6 but, I've also heard a lot of Ducks fans saying they don't think he can play wing.

Based off way too early predictions I think Beck looks like a potentially strong 2way center that can produce 50ish points from the 3rd line and 2nd PP, a Jordan Staal type assuming his defensive play develops as well

Newhook looks like he'll be a good top6 winger when healthy
ANA
  1. Beck, Owen
  2. Newhook, Alex
Détails additionnels:
MTL gets Zegras a player that many ACGMs make mock trades about because he's friends with Caufield.

I think if I was MTL this is how I'd have my top6 next year when they are hopefully healthy
Unknown(maybe Roy) - Suzuki - Dach
Slafkovsky - Zegras - Caufield

If MTL prefers Dach at center they could always try Zegras out as winger.

I say semi serious trade because I know MTL would need to add more but, I honestly wouldn't know how much, maybe a 3rd?

One 3rd line winger with top 6 upside (Newhook) + a good prospect with middle six upside (Beck) doesn't land you Trevor Zegras buddy

Let's Newhook play a bit. He only played like 20 games and was one of the best player in the team.

If this was what it took to get Zegras then I’d hope that Hughes would pull the trigger immediately…problem is that it’d cost us a player we REALLY don’t want to give up.

I know ducks fan would say it takes more to land Zegras but i'm not making that deal if i'm the habs. Beck has the potential to be an extremely valuable center with decent offense and a solid defensive games and Newhook looked like he was a finding a new level to his game before getting Injured, Zegras would be awesome to have but for a team thats still rebuilding i wouldnt sacrificing two young two way forwards for a solely offensive forward.

If they go after Zegras will be a D and pick heavy proposal.

It costs blue chip pieces to get blue chip pieces. Take both of those players out and add someone of the Slaf/Reinbacher ilk, then even that out with whatever mid-value players/picks

I’m sorry but Zegras trades to Montreal are just not smart for us. This one isn’t bad value wise but the whole idea of adding him is based on the hurry up and be impatient thinking that’s left us stuck for decades in limbo.

I don't think Zegras would speed anything up for MTL, the team isn't ready either way but, I think a more offensively gifted center can help for the future

Not neccessarily and also depends on what other teams (Anaheim) think of Beck

I wouldnt offer more than a washed up Michael Ryder, Jaroslav Halak stop sign and old Momesso's leftover submarine rather than pay a trickshot, always injured 'Merican. This team has enough players made of glass.

I think Beck has Jordan Staal potential which would be super valuable for the teams future but, I also think Mesar has Mikael Backlund potential.
Keeping both would be ideal but, moving him out for a very good offensive player could be big for the Habs future since we have another that can play the 3rd line center.
Now you might have Beck in even higher regard and in that we just disagree and we'll see what happens.

Also Ducks would never take a trade for a D since they have the best Defensive prospect pool in the NHL, maybe they'd take Guhle, who MTL should not trade

Guhle has already been moved to the top pair with Matheson and now is getting PP time. He's going to get a Sanderson style contract and is an untouchable. I don't think the Ducks are that loaded at D after trading Drysdale and we saw what happened when they thought they could sacrifice some D with Montour and Theodore.

You never have too many good defenders that can push the play

Newhook was playing 2nd line with Dach and both got hurt. Newhook is\was having a better season than Zegras so far but he's been injured too and had 2 previous years that are better than Newhook's.
What I'm saying is, calling him a 3rd liner is disingenous
Again Beck has Top 6 upside but, would be best used in a 3rd line role, that's why I said J.Staal since he won a cup in Pitt as a 3rd liner but was a 2nd liner for a long time
Don't underestimate the value he brings

Sure but, if your argument is that you can never have enough good D than I can say the same about forwards

Seems like a solid B level prospect that any team would be happy to have in the pipeline. Also one that no team would target when sending a 22 year old back-to-back 60pt scorer who’s been rounding out his 200ft game with some of the best hands in the NHL.

If we offer Lundestrom, Perreault, and Pastujov for Caufield, what’s your take? My guess is ‘hell no’, which might help you relate to the ANA pov better

Yeah but, that's not an apples for apples comparison.
Lundestrom has never a good 3rd liner statistically with only one decent season, never really been tried in a top6 role and is older than Caufield.
Newhook is the same age as Zegras, had 2 consistent decent\good seasons and before his injury definitely looked like a 2nd line winger. Ignoring Lundestroms injuries because Newhook has been injured this year.
Beck is also younger than both suggested prospects, Pastujov doesn't look great but, after a down year maybe because of injuries (only 40ish games played) Perreault looks promising.

I think a more accurate comparison would be Luneau + Perreault and a pick (which I did say MTL would need to add, I said 3rd but could be more) and too that I'd say it's a tough call

Sure. But if you’re telling me that Luneau and Perrault with some pick to even it out would be a return you’d take for Caufield my mind is blown. Kinda feel like that exemplifies my point
