Calgary passes, Both Hanifin and Tanev get far better offers than this. Especially both 50% retained.

That's a low end offer for Hanifin by himself. Why is Calgary just casually adding Tanev for free?

Far better? Tanev is worth a 2nd and Hanifin is a 1st + The deal is very fair.

None of this is "all in". And this is not the best use of resources for Montreal or Calgary (especially Calgary).





Retention is a problem for the Habs, Montreal would probably prefer to use that slot differently, especially if they're eating salary too.

Solves a few issues for the Habs.

1) Monty & Primeau deserve the games more based on merit
2) Goalie needed in the AHL and none of their's can pass waivers

Habs won't need the cap space until 2025-26 and they probably won't trade Savard until next season.

Using Montreal's last retention spot this season and 2nd retention spot until the end of the next season to add against the LTIR and a couple of mid-round picks is a trade you make if there are no better options for any use of retention. Its to the point where waiving Allen would make more sense (and that doesn't make sense).
