You make a statement by taking out one of their stars. Hughes is going to pay for Smith being a piece of crap.
1. Brendan Smith hits Bedard cleanly
2. Bedard gets hurt
3. Foligno challenges Smith to answer for clean hit
4. Foligno gets hurt
Even your coach said it was a clean hit….said he watched it on bench and saw it was clean hit. So why did Hischier, who didn’t even have puck, get run by Murphy? Why did Donato jump on Bastian while he was mid-fight with Vlasic?
The amount of dirty plays after the Bedard injury was embarrassing. No one should have to answer for a clean hit….let alone an entire team. But it was their star player, so I get Foligno asking Smith for a fight (Smith talked about it in post-game interview and said Foligno did it with class)
It’s unfortunate Bedard was hurt…but if there is any franchise that sympathizes with Hawks, it’s probably NJD as we see teams take unnecessary runs at Jack and Nico all the time. Especially slower, less-skilled teams that would otherwise get carved up by them.
NHL needs to protect their stars. But the tit-for-tat after a clean hit just ends up with more players injured.
