Matt Roy wont be an RFA at the end of the season he will be a UFA. So you cant get the rights to sign him, it would either have to be a sign and trade or you'd have to take a shot at him like the rest of the league in free agency.

Typically teams with more than one player on them making more than 10m+ AAV dont make it passed the first round. You being a Leafs fan should know this all too well.

Same goes with a Doughty trade. Players with 8-figure contracts (not named McDavid) aren't easily tradable without significant retention.

Erik Karlsson is the only player in history that has been traded with an 8-figure contract, and his return left much to be desired. San Jose had to eat a significant amount of salary in return as well.

Cool, you keep thinking this is about the Kings not valuing Marner, it's about a balanced lineup.

Next season the Kings have to reup Byfield (who deserves a healthy raise), reup Kaliyev, purchase TWO goaltenders, having Spence and Clarke makes it vital to have a shutdown defenseman on each line so if Roy is not reupped they need to sign another shutdown defenseman. I have no idea how you think the Kings can do all this and afford Marner.

Try to do this from the Kings point of view and you have made a weaker team, I guarantee it.
