Hawks have already been there done that w/Maatta. Doubt they give up anything to get him back. Especially with the number of LHD they have in the organization currently.

haha i dont think so. He will have the opportunity to get that in his next 7-8yr contract when this one ends and cap is super high. Yzerman has leverage and can convince Seider to take a bit of a discount to help the team be a regulars in the playoffs

they could use his leadership and experience and being a former hawk definitely helps a team full of young players! Im not sure what their LHD situation is but CF has them with a bunch of super young LHD. So yeah, an older vet on the back end might do them some good

In this ACGM, Wings move Maata to make room for Edvinsson. Hawks have Vlasic and Korchinski as their top 2 on the left side. And Kaiser, Phillips and DelMastro to compete for time on 3LD. So why would the Hawks spend a pick on Maata and block ice time from young D they want to develop when Wings are moving him for the exact same reason? And Hawks have Jones and Murphy to provide veteran leadership on their blue line.

They don't need his "leadership" or "experience", they have Murphy and Seth Jones for that reason both of whom are better. The hawks are loaded with young LHD players/prospects some that are better than Maatta already (Vlasic and Korschinski) and others with higher ceilings. Zero reason for the Hawks to even take him for free.

Sounds like we are going to have to agree to disagree on this.

Not sure Hawks would except Maatta + 3rd for FC. But they forsure wont give anything up for him.

KD has been very intentional in building with speed. 90% of the prospects he drafts skate above average, and several of the vets he acquired skate very well. Maatta aint exactly know for his speed.

The goaltending and defense is still atrocious...if SY chooses to not fix that, what's the point ?
