Hawks Draft redraft 2018-2021
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>Any change in the earlier drafts would probably change their standings for later drafts. Not saying some changes cannot be made. But once you start getting better talent your draft picks may be higher and you may miss out on Bedard</div></div>
Agree, that's why I only went back a few years. But you're correct. Also gotta think if they draft better they dont trade Cat and maybe resign Kane. Crazy to think of the ifs and buts

That's not how rounding works anyway. I know it's been 20+ years since I was in school. But I'm pretty sure math hasn't changed that much.
If the number is higher than 5, round up.
If the number is lower than 5, round down.
Given your dealing with TOI. The TOI of 19:33 rounds with the number 33, not 19, so it would round DOWN to 19 minutes not up to 20.
So ergo NOT 1/3.</div></div>
BRUH, go back to school. 33 seconds is closer to 60 seconds than 0 seconds.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jco5ta5</b></div><div>Yeah I agree I think this is an easier no than if you exchanged Bedard with another elite but not quite generational player as I said in my post. Hockey more so than football and basketball is much more of a team sport. For as good as Bedard is, he doesn't even play 1/3 of the game. Football, we've seen what Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Patrick Mahomes can do. Basketball we see what guys like Lebron James can do. They can literally change games and seasons. Bedard is obviously special and can in fact change games but hockey you need more of a team. McDavid is best player in the world and hasn't even gone to the finals. Ovechkin has only won a single Stanley Cup. So for me, I'm building a team, not just playing my best player. And if you're going to offer me 2 all-star level players for 1, I'm thinking about it.</div></div>
He is averaging 19:33. If you round, that's 1/3 of the game.

Hawks wouldnt retain on Jones for that long. That kills the deal alone. Plus, id rather have a slightly overpaid Seth Jones than eating 4m for 7 years and a retention slot.

Vlasic gets more term/money- Likely both. McLeod is a good player, would love to have him, but dumping Campbell cost more than that. Hawks arent trying Boquist again, that experiment failed (mostly coaching).

I think the Hawks would ask more for Donato retained. Seems like an overpay to Anaheim, but maybe that's what it takes. In this market, ANA could flip Liljegren for a 2nd+.

Obvious Trade Pieces for the Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrodeurBro30</b></div><div>I thought of Blackwell, but I didn’t know where exactly to send him. Probably a fringe playoff contender for a 5th makes sense. I think this is the first year where Chicago isn’t going to send off potential core pieces for more futures. Imo, I think they keep Raddysh and they will need to trade one of the LHD (anyone not named Korchinski) to clear a logjam.</div></div>
Problem is Raddysh's value has completely eroded. He's worth nothing now. And we will need bodies to roster next year so I'd guess they see if he can turn it around next year.

I hope in the FUTURE you'll CONSIDERATION adding picks for that Forsberg cap dump. Hawks have no need or space for a goalie, so not only will they not take him for free, but it will cost a premium for him to land in Chicago (again).

You gotta pay more than that to move Sheary to the hawks at least. They have no use, so it would be a pure dump from their point of view.

Crosby and Bedard would be the most fun way to completely ruin the rebuild. I'd enjoy the hell out of 2 years and then regret it for 15.

Not sure the Hawks would be super interested in Timmins but I do think they'd consider Robertson and Timmins for a 2nd and 6th. Robertson's fairly quick with high compete- Seems to be the profile the Hawks are after. At 22, I'd say they would be open to discussion. Not sure they'll want to give up the 33rd OA pick in the draft though.

RHD stopgap until prospects get here? If they do that it would tell me they plan on moving Murphy which I dont see happening. I doubt the hawks have any interest in giving up picks or prospects for him.

At best, Toronto gives you a second, probably still a stretch. If they were willing to give that much up for him they would have just done it months ago. Hawks are interested in Kuzmenko but if the price is higher than a 3rd they aren't even considering it.

We've stolen Rockfords talent all year. The guys that were suppose to stay there have been up and down several times. I think a deep playoff run would be good for the young players. Send everyone you can down. As far as the trades, I think I'd rather keep some guys than get back 6th and 7ths. Plus, the retention slots used from Mrazek and Johnson are worth at least that alone. So we'd be better off keeping them and being 3rd party in a trade. I dont think thats enough to take on Campbells contract either.

slowly building
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>I could maybe see them bringing in a vet for the top pairing if someone is available that they think would be a bigger benefit to Jones than Vlasic, to get him going, hoping for some trade interest. But, I doubt they do that. I think the resolve around him is "if it happens, it happens. If it doesnt', we are happy to keep him." Meaning if he asks for a trade and there is interest, great, but if not, no big deal. Plan as if he is part of the picture and re-address the situation if something changes. And that is the only way I could see them bringing another LHD into the top 4. But anyone they would bring in that might actually be beneficial will want term, anyway, and that isn't going to happen. Plus, even if Vlasic is still developing, they have been playing very well together. So, there is almost no point in doing that, and this entire hypothetical situation is a moot point.
So, yeah, not gonna happen, and if it did, it definitely wouldn't be Gostisbehere.
Also, I have gone from liking Eiserman, to being ok with Eiserman, to now not wanting anything to do with him in the draft. I hope KD isn't considering him with CHI's first pick, and I honestly wouldn't even want him with the TBL pick. I went through and watched a bunch of his games on demand and, outside of his shot and ability to find space, I don't like him at all. He more than likely won't get away with that at the pro level and his shot would be nullified. There are much more exciting, dynamic, and translatable players available in the upcoming draft. Which is why he is falling down so many rankings so rapidly. If we get another 1st late in the round and he is available, or he falls to the 2nd round, that is where I might consider taking a shot on a high upside "boom or bust" player like him.</div></div>
If Eiserman is available with the second pick, absolutely! Take him and hope he develops into a more well rounded player. But he seems like way to much of a gamble to waste at top 5 pick on. Give me someone with a higher floor.

Only moves I'm not sold they will make is 2 goalies, they'll give Soderblum at least 1 more year. And Gostisbehere, I think they'll let the kids play. Especially after how Vlasic and Korchinski have looked so far this year. I could see them bringing in a veteran 6/7th Dman that can play both sides. Someone stable. But good work, I think this is pretty close to what the Hawks will look like next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>According to this study done on the cost of retention: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/2023-trade-deadline-countdown-which-teams-will-be-third-party-money-brokers
This is the cost of 3rd party retention:
1st Round Pick: $800,000+
2nd Round Pick: $650,000
3rd Round Pick: $500,000
4th Round Pick: $350,000
5th Round Pick: $185,000
6th Round Pick $125,000
7th Round Pick: $100,000<
The trade deadline leaves roughly 1/3rd of the season to be played. Half of one third of Tanev's salary is roughtly $742K in actual cash salary. Putting the cost of retention for him in the area of a 2nd round pick.
Thanks for the generous offer, though. Good talk!</div></div>
Plus, the number of teams up against the cap because of years of a flat cap also make the retention worth more, or certainly nobody is taking it for a discount. Pretty sure the Athletic did a similar look at cost of retention and got similar results.

Domi and Bertuzzi arent even putting up that bad of numbers. Look at their 5v5 production vs the rest of the team and its pretty close to where I would expect. Keefe isnt using them correctly is why "they arent working out" Bertuzzi was a force on the bruins PP last year.

Blackwell is fast and fiery. Might not put every breakaway in the net, but his compete level is exactly what you want on a bottom 6 contending team.
