Did a deep search into defense and these 2 are exactly what we need

Description
the stats on these two are very good this year and exactly what we need on defense.
Borgen has 78 hits with very low give aways and plenty of blocks and is young.
Lauzon has 120 hits with a lot of blocks and is also young.
They are both capable of playing more minutes if needed and both have very low give aways compared to our defense core.

Both are 3rd pair defenders. The leafs don't need more 3rd pair defenders.

I do like Borgen but he would only hurt Rielly's game. I like Lauzon though for the 3rd pair but is he really any better than GIo?

Also Timmins has been really good this season and will get better as he plays more. His offence and ability to move the puck is so needed right now.

Neither player is available and likely both cost quite a bit more than offered.

120 hits and 47 block with only 10 give aways on over 17 mins average ice time is exactly what I think he is.
Super physical and not a defensive liabilty.

I think if a little bit of what NSH or SEA wanted was offered it could work , not too much more I think would get either.

You’re probably right on Borgen, but there’s no reason why Nashville wouldn’t listen on Lauzon. Value wise I don’t think he’d cost much more than this if at all, but it’s just not the right pieces. Timmins doesn’t have much value and he’s not really a fit in Nashville. But a couple of 3rd’s and a prospect is more than enough value for Lauzon.

He’d be a good fit in Toronto, it’s more of a matter of when Nashville is ready to start their real rebuild/retool and he’s definitely the type of guy you trade in those situations.

Edit: my bad, I flipped the trades in my head for some reason.
Bur Lajoie and a 4th definitely isn’t enough. But Lauzon would still be a guy that could be moved

Timmins would be more reliable with a solid defense partner like Oleksiak and has a offensive upside for sure that SEA may want.

No he wouldn’t.

Timmins is a very high risk, high reward type of player. He sees the game fairly well offensively, but when he sees a play and thinks it through his defensive judgement and decision making is pure awful. He’s a #6 or #7 defenceman. Theres not much value to him at all.

So you've explained what the Leafs gain from these trades, but what's in it for Seattle and Nashville?

More hate than I expected! And they may be 3rd pair guys on their teams now but 2nd pairing wouldn’t be crazy (put Brodie and Reilly together) this is smarter than I think people are giving you credit for, think I have to agree you need to add to both deal to swing this. And a better G would be smart as well.

If I had to guess, Lauzon isn’t available. The D man coming out of Nashville is probably Barrier or Fabbro, not him

Nashville paid a second for Lauzon and he's pretty much the same player. They have Stastney that could maybe step in for him but I'm not sure if that's ideal for Nashville. Don't think they are in a rush to trade him. He's young, signed for a few more years at a cheap cap hit. Sure they will listen to offers, as every team will for almost every player, but unless it's beneficial for them why do it? This deal is not close to being worth it.
Seattle doesn't have a replacement platter for Borgen. Schultz is a UFA and likely moves on. Moving him would really hurt there defender this season and next. Also again, he's young and cheap.
For the same reason you want those guys, so do their respective teams. Moving either would make both teams worse and neither team is wanting to be worse. Very limited market on defensemen this year I feel.

I personally wouldn't move Timmins.

Apart from Rielly (who's well above it and Timmins who's roughly on it) no one in that defense group is at or even near a 0,5PPG pace in that d-core.

You need defenders who can contribute to the offense. The Leafs already arguably don't have enough of that right now.
