I think Habs should do it w/ some retention - if it's not a first, second then.

I mean it’s 30 games into an 8 year deal and is looking like it will probably be the worst contract offered so far in the cap-era, so probably. Three years of saving $4 million with Anderson and five years with 9-9.5 more to work with after that. A million or so in dead cap would be worth that to me.

Great another Quebecois coming in hot on an overpaid contract. That usually works out in MTL's craze fan base an media.

Huberdeau will quit hockey if this trade happens.

Habs fan turned on Gally, Drouin and Anderson so fast when they underperformed their 5M$ + contracts... imagine with 10M$

Well if you want to use the 30 game sample as totally indicative of the future than i get it. But being a great GM is about seeing beyond the last 30 games. This guy put up between 70 and 115 points over 5 straight years when paired with quality linemates. Anderson has stone hands, and is at BEST a 20 goal guy, with zero playmaking ability. Huberdeau COULD, and I highlight COULD, be worth a lot more. Anderson's ceiling is clear.

The worst contract of the Cap era...... way way way too early to tell that. It's a bad deal, for sure. But the worst? Really cannot make that claim yet. I think it's worth a shot for the incremental dollars.

Cue the blaming of Habs fans - instead of players who suck.

Anderson for Huberdeau straight up would be a bad trade adding a first would be horrendous.

Easy pass. Habs have to focus on youth and drafting not overaged stars that we will want out of town after 2 years

I mean - kind of yes. Drouin had no track record of ever really performing - all things considered his career wasn't terrible here, but the expectations were high for a 3rd overall - as they would be anywhere.

Busts are gonna bust - they just do it more publicly here.

If you want to look back past these 32 games you can see that last year his production cut in half compared to the year before, and has dropped further this year with a variety of line mates and a new coach. I 100% think Huberdeau is better than the level he’s performing at, but given his age and cap hit, he won’t come close to being worth his contract. Getting out of that for the next seven years - even if it meant suffering Anderson for three more years at a little over half that cost - would be a blessing for Calgary.

Suffering Anderson ? If Anderson was getting paid 4M no one would complain. He presented himself every game and plays the right way

I was saying that in context to the post I was replying to. Besides, he doesn’t get paid $4 mil, so that’s beside the point.

I've said this many times on other threads, but imo MTL will not trade CGYs conditional 2025 1st under almost any circumstances until they know if they are getting FLAs 2025 1st (the most likely scenario) or keeping CGYs 2025 1st (with a small chance of it becoming a lottery pick with the exception of the 1st overall pick).

If Habs get FLAs 2025 1st, it's open for business. If they keep CGYs.... the chance they trade it is practically 0%.

As for taking Huberdeau's contract. It's far more complicated than just swapping him with Anderson. I did a thread on this in November showing how even if MTL throws Price's contract along with Anderson's for Huberdeau, there's just too much salary and term MTL would be taking on to justify taking him, unless CGY adds a ridiculous amount of quality assets.

But you would only be suffering Anderson contract if he was on a contender and that team would be in cap hell. Like MTL right now have no problem with Anderson contract, especially since there’s nobody outside Ylönen who should be playing 2RW

Calgary wouldn’t actually be suffering with Anderson in comparison to Huberdeau, I was using that word mostly facetiously in context of the post I was replying to.
