Am I the only one thinking this is an overpay from Colorado? Byram is easily worth more than Lindholm or Hanifian. Giving them RoJo on a contract that isn't even a cap dump at this point and a 1st. I feel like you could get away with Byram and a second

It's pretty tempting. The debate is whether Byram has the skill to be "that guy" on the blue line and stay healthy. Like he's solid but he would have to be able to grow into a franchise level talent here for this to be worthwhile. Like Calgary is essentially choosing Byram over like 2.5 1sts in value here.

Byram was the Avs most used dman in the cup run, if you guys get there, he has proven to be "that guy"

I know who he is very well. He is also injury prone too. The issue is gauging his ceiling right now. Cale is something else so I won't compare to him but Byram is 2 years younger than Miro right now. Miro exploded the following year in production but the skill was clearly always there even at age 22. I would want to compare footage of Miro at age 22 vs Byram this year because to me unless Byram can become a Heiskanen level player Calgary could really get hosed here by not trading them separately for more picks/prospects

I did the math this way Hanifin and Lindholm should get around 3.5 1sts in value, give or take 0.5 (obviously not all in 1st round picks but like prospects and later picks too). Substracting the 1st here leaves me with 2.5 1sts in value

He has displayed a higher pop out ceiling than any dman on the Flames. Injuries haven't been an issue since almost a year ago where it was a lower body sprain they didnt know how to treat. Once they did he was back at it n hasn't looked back. He initiates and takes contact well enough for someone with concusions in his past.
I do agree the Flames could get more pieces in seperate trades, I highly doubt a team is willing to trade a Byram level player for either of them though.

His reputation with local media is a kid with supreme confidence & cocky attitude to match the high end skill. Its been said that he "wants to be The Man." Toews & Makar are The Man & so I see Bo being blocked in COL. CGY offers the perfect top pair opportunity for him to be that guy.

Injuries are def a concern but he's been available the last two postseasons & this season has been So Far So Good.

I really don't think so at all here. Lets take Hanifin for example. If he's willing to sign an extension with Arizona for example do you think they would move 3 of their 10 2nds over the next 3 years and Soderstrom for him? I think they would consider it as he fits their young core nicely. That is about the value of 1.5 to 1.75 1sts. That's half of the total value I said above right there.

I also clearly stated +/- 0.5 1sts in value too.

For either alone? Oh certainly not. That's why I'm calling it a high risk high reward type of deal. It's all in for 1 young prospect. This would be similar to when they traded for Iggy back in 95

Its a bigger gamble for the Avs. Moving a blue chip or set n forget top 3 dman on the avs, probably top pair elsewhere for two rentals. These aren't the types of moves the Avs make

Were not talking about a 33 year old Tanev here. We're talking about the only player in the league who is both younger than McDavid and played more games than him. And if you haven't watched Hanifin this year he is absolutely earning a contract over 7M. He's been a beast this year

It's crazy how some days you are bearable to talk to on here and others like today you aren't at all. But hey I don't think I need to explain how Hanifin will get at least as much as Hampus Lindholm to you anymore (which was the value of 2 1sts)

moving byram to resign lindholm seems short sighted. We could get a much better 2C for byram thats younger and already has term. This would be selling low on byram.

EL has been CGY's 1C; I think he's the ideal 2C behind MacKinnon.

Byram has already produced one Cup winning performance in COL, so its not like the Avs haven't gotten value already from him.

I think Byram is who Toews called out yesterday: https://twitter.com/DNVR_Avalanche/status/1737350403879031183/photo/1 -- I'm getting of a mind that Byram for a 2C is the move, but not a rental like Lindholm. Feeling good about Malinski & Behrens in the next couple of years and then Gulyayev for combined salaries less than Byram will make alone.
