they get 2 x 1st round picks and Niemela. They aren't in a position to win yet. They are missing super star talent.

Cause neither are on the last years of their deals I could maybe see Larsson being moved but that’s a big maybe only time will tell I guess

Not really though? If anything they were further ahead with Doughty and Kopitar in the fold. You guys had a decent year last year where you exceeded expectations and squeaked into the playoffs, upsetting the Avs in RD 1. I think it would be a mistake to place too much expectation on your team because of that. You currently have Wennberg, Eberle, Schultz, Bellemare, Megna and Tatar expiring after this year. Based on your performance thus far you should be getting whatever you can for those players and try to get one of the game changing players at the top of the draft.

The year after this one you have Larsson, Gourde, Borgen, Tanev and Dumoulin expiring, all players whose value is probably at it's peak right now, and all players who will only hurt your tank. Your team is old, lacks a lot of elite young prospects and is nowhere near good enough to win, or even make the playoffs for that matter. I think it would be wise to build through the draft and accept that this team probably won't be following the path that Vegas did.

Making this defence core older is not a good idea. Liljegren and Niemela shouldn't get traded they are the only guys we have with upside and are young.

Lily wouldn’t bring back a 1st with 50% retention. Lucky to get a late 2nd or 3rd with the retention never mind without.
