TOR
  1. Jensen, Nick
Détails additionnels:
The leafs want a RHD with term. Jensen can play second pair minutes and has 2.5 seasons left at 4.05M. Jensen has had a down year, so his return will be quite small, but they gotta move a defenseman. Could move him to another team if Toronto has no interest, but it at least makes some sense as a fit.

Waivers. Any team. It’s not working out here. He probably won’t clear to the AHL, but great if he does.

DAL
  1. Edmundson, Joel (875 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Edmundson has looked pretty awful with the caps. Bad penalties and all offense dies when he touches the puck. Send him anywhere. Someone will take him as a 7D. Let Alexyev and Johansen alternate as #6/7 for the blue line.

Détails additionnels:
Believe it or not, I am not suggesting this move out of sentimental value.
NJD
  1. Kuemper, Darcy
Détails additionnels:
I don’t know if this is something NJ would even consider. This is the most “out there” of the trades here imo. I think the caps could do without Kuemper and just move him for someone younger. The devils want a better goalie to split starts with Schmid or take the starter role entirely, so maybe they go with a budget option (in terms of cost to acquire) in Kuemper and save their first round picks for a rental D to replace Hamilton? Or another top 6 forward to stack that core?

  1. Kuznetsov, Evgeny
Détails additionnels:
Lapierre has looked just as good as if not better than Kuzy honestly, but Lapierre is younger and still developing. Let him have a roster spot over Kuznetsov.

Caps could afford to retain if necessary, but if they find a suitor willing to give him 1.5 seasons of a chance at his full hit, send him there for whatever.
6.
WSH
  1. Henrique, Adam
Détails additionnels:
Take a flyer on Henrique if you want to be competitive this year. Caps need another guy who can play center behind Strome and CMcM.

I think you can get more for Jensen than a 3rd. They should at least target an NHL forward. Trading Keumper for Vanecek is a big downgrade and seems pointless

No thanks on Kuz. Maybe if he’s half retained I’d take a flyer on him for a third and hope he rebounds enough that the jackets can flip him at next years deadline but at full value he’s got negative value to the jackets

Devils say no. That contract is too long and he isn't any better than VV right now. Rather buyout VV at the end fo the season than take on a sub-mid goalie.

Caps probably don't do any of those. And no to sending Kuemper to NJD. They are a good goalie away from being contenders. Let them suffer.

We'll pass on the 33 year old with an 0.892 who costs 5+ mill for the next 4 years

All that is needed...is a good goalie in the deal coming to NJD. This doesn't have that.

Based on previous goalie markets we could do a lot better for our money and assets.

Kuemper was had for FREE in UFA, and since then has been worse bc he’s in his mid 30s. What makes you think his value has gone up.

If we’re investing draft capital and significant money into a goalie it better be a hammer.

Swayman, Gibson w retention, Gustafsson, saros, Sorokin, hart, etc

He hasn't gotten worse. He played behind an incredibly injured team last season. Was killing it until everyone went down. This season was just a slow start, been getting better. Had a stellar game tonight in CAR. If you can get those other goalies then go for it, just saying Kuemper would help a lot too.

Sure kuemper may help this year. But when he’s 34 next year, trending downwards and still taking up 5.5 mill what then. And the. 35, and then 36. The devils aren’t in a 1 year window where we can afford to pay for a contract that very likely becomes ugly, and even currently is at a an 0.892

A goalie turning 34 this season with THREE years left while having a down season? Yikes

I wouldn't call it a down season. Just a couple rough games he got hung out to dry. He's back on the upswing.

Maybe i'm biased but i think kuzy could get traded for good assets if part of his salary gets retained. He used to be a 70+ point scorer consistently but since the coaching changes and his back injury earlier this year he hasn't looked like himself. I think the caps could get a good replacement for kuzy if they retain 20%-40% of his salary in the trade. basically, i think a 3rd rounder for kuzy is far too little.

Still, 34, at that price? How many goalies can even MAINTAIN being decent in those late years? That's an albatross costly contract.

Plenty of goalies that age do well especially for a positional goalie like himself. He doesn't rely athleticism so he'll age fine.
