I like the thinking behind building from the bottom up and patching holes where needed but I highly doubt DeBrusk puts up numbers like last year so I'm not a fan of committing to him for 7 years. With all the LD we have in the system I'd rather target a right-handed defenseman, not a left-handed one that can play the right side. I like Nylander (I was a huge fan of his father years ago) but that $12.5M will hurt down the road when the young guns need raises.

Take Sam Reinhardt over Nylander for $10M...he's a better two way guy and Bedard needs that. Moore will be a future top 6 winger or 3C not next season, but the season after. Forget TJ Brodie, Sam Rinzel won't be ready next season but the season after he should be. Del Mastro is another guy soon to be here. Colton Dach might get called up next year.

Point is, no Debrusk and no TJ Brodie. Sure, the Hawks can and should bring in a big name RW guy but outside of that, have patience.

I can see the Hawks maybe signing ONE top 6 (Nylander, Reinhardt) F to a long term deal. No chance they sign two guys to 7 year deals. And DeBrusk definitely wouldn't be that guy. Brodie's play has been declining. Signing him for 3 years is another poor move.

That probably gets nylander if he makes it to free agency I hope he doesn’t though haha

These Nylander signings are beyond insane at this point.
