Even with unloading Martin and Clutterbuck, they don't have enough cap space next year to extend Stamkos. Assuming Fadching and Gauthier replace Martin and Clutterbuck on the 4th line, and league minimum types at 13/14F and 7D, they'll have a total of about $4.5MM in cap space, but also need to resign or replace Holmstrom, Wahlstrom at forward, and Aho and/or Reilly on defense. That doesn't really leave much room for a Stamkos extension.

No it’s not. Vancouver got a 1st, top organizational prospect, and a NHL roster player that at least had some history of production. This deal is filled with picks and busts of prospects, neither Wahlstrom nor Maggio are anywhere close than to Beauvillier or Raty.

a 1st a 3rd, wahlstrom is recovering from an acl injury, still has one of the best shots on the team, and maggio is the best prospect right now considering he just put up 100+ point season in the ohl the year after his draft year.
