Marner trade never happens

He has an NMC which means he'd have to approve the trade, which I doubt he'd do.

For 1 year of marner I'd say take out chytil. With that said, I'd still accept the trade above if Toronto retained to make the money even.

Yeah with Panarin on the roster I do not see a need for Marner like at all. Besides I doubt he wants out of TOR.

Ignoring the probability of trade…and just answering the cost.

I think comps to look at would be

1. Matt Duchene 2019 (last 82gp: 42g, 48a, 90pts)
2. Taylor Hall 2019 (last 82gp: 30g, 59a, 89pts)
3. Bo Horvat 2023 (last 82gp: 50g, 35a, 85pts)

Player, prospect, 1st, 3rd (with maybe additional piece to make cap work).

So 3 low salary roster players (4 total first round picks) for Marner and cap dump?

He has an NMC limiting his value and a 11 million dollar contract. There is only so much surplus value he can provide in 1 year

Even if he plays like a 20 million dollar player, that's only 9 million dollars in surplus value.
