If the Blues were completely out of the playoff picture this would be hard to turn down, assuming Buch isn't part of the long term plans. That's a big if though.

It seems like a reasonable blueprint to me. The people that will tell you otherwise probably just value keeping Buch over trading him. Because realistically it's tough to pull premium assets in any trade. I could see the Blues locking in on Willander and then maybe it just goes nowhere. In terms of "this is the most VAN can put up" I think you're pretty accurate.

I've roughly emulated the Timo Meir trade with this offer. I know it is a lot to give up and dependant on long term plans for buch as well as where St Louis is at come the deadline but I just really think Buch is the type of difference maker the Canucks need on the wing and will elevate them into a contender out of the west.

Mukhamdulim = brustewicz
Johansson = Garland
Zetturlund = Podkolzin
1st + conditional 2nd

Meier was a few years younger, a pending RFA who wanted to be in NJ and was going to sign long-term (and probably better overall player…but I am biased). Buchnevich is 2-year rental…and next contract starts at age 30.

Oh I know. Meier should have more value than Buch. The trade isn't exactly the same but just emulating it. SJ got another decent young dman in that Meier deal and also sent back a 5th rather than the 3rd coming back in this one. I do value the idea of Buch on this roster at 5.8mil for two playoff runs quite a bit here. It isn't the perfect comparison but given not wanting to trade Lekkerimaki or Willander in this deal I figured that trade had a solid framework to it to build this one off of.

My friend. Forget "fair". Think of the specific pieces that would convince the Blues to come off Buch. This assortment is presumably not gonna resonate with Army.

You've said elsewhere that they would want a dman. You're getting a good defense prospect in this + a reclamation project that could still pan out in Podkolzin (can swap him with Raty if a C is preferred) + Garland who is a solid middle 6 player for the short term + a couple of picks that can either be used in the draft or used to acquire younger players that fit the blues core of Thomas and Kyrou.

Willander isn't getting dealt and you're not likely to get a Willander type prospect from anyone. Those guys are very very rarely traded. St Louis could ultimately just keep Buch but I think this offer would be right there with the best of offers.

Massive overpay. Who's coming back McDavid? Brustewicz is a first rounder in the redraft, so three firsts a second and Garland for Buchy!!! Hard pass......................and it will never happen. Take a close look at Patrick Allvin trades in the last year or so....................

Podkolzin doesn't have the value of a 1st anymore. Garland is a cap casualty, he is a fine player but has 0 value. Brust is a solid prospect that has upped is draft stock significantly yes, would probably be a late 1st or early 2nd in a re-draft. Don't over value your prospects.
