MTL aren't making the playoffs this season and are at best a huge stretch next season. Therefore this seems like an absolutely needless gamble for MTL to make to potentially get a better player now when that really doesn't help them get closer to the cup at any point. Huberdeau is quite simply a terrible bet to take and way too long at the wrong age. Gallagher and Anderson expire sooner and fit better with (hopefully expensive) extensions for Slaf, Guhle, Dach, Roy, Reinbacher and Mailloux.
I'd rather wait for Gallagher to inevitably become LTIRetired and Anderson is either traded, expire or worst case scenario bought out than to kill MTL's cap flexibility for the next 7 years.
