The real problem with these Drai trades is his price varies with how many teams he says he'd be open to move to. If he is like Tkachuck who just chose one team it makes it very difficult, PLD gave a list of 6 teams which drove up the price quite a bit. If Drai does chooses 4-5 teams who will at least be competitive for the 2 years remaining on his contract and have the space to facilitate this trade, then the Oilers will get massive offers like this. But if I'm the wild, trading those two doesn't really make me a powerhouse for the next two seasons.

We’ll he’s not returning this lmfao

You’re trading a top 10 player for another top 10-15 player which already means your value is already gonna get skewed, then you’re trading for arguably a league wide top 5 prospect. Then a first.

Oilers shoulda just drafted Wallstedt😂

The whole idea going around that draisaitl isn’t gonna return an elite player back is just dumb to me I don’t think the wild would do it either but any trade that involves draisaitl should look similar to this one or the oilers will simply not do it

I mean right now if the current trend continues in league dynamics Leon could be shifted around in these subjective charts.

Doesn’t change my point that he’s not going to return a near equal player plus a potential franchise goalie/ starter.

Then the oilers won’t trade him

That’s no problem for a single team in the league if he plans on walking but the Oilers refuse to trade him. That’s quite literally a Oilers problem if they won’t trade him lol.

Oilers have zero leverage if Leon plans to leave.

It's a catch-22, if you can't get a great return on Drai you keep him, but then your owner is upset that you got nothing for a guy who potentially walks. There is no chance he is traded this season, but next offseason if he doesn't commit to an extension you need to start shopping him for the deadline and ask for a list of prefered destinations.

The problem with that logic is teams want to hold their young star players and are not going to part with them for someone who is UFA after next season.

They will give up high end short term piece and picks, prospects.

But you are not getting another teams star player back, it defeats the purpose for that team to make the trade to begin with.

You are not getting Mac or Pasta, Kaprizov, Eichel, Kucherov, Miro etc etc or any of the other lunacy.

There is a difference between returning scraps and this. The template would be the Eichel trade but with a bit stronger return. Solid player in Tuch, top prospect in Krebs, 1st + 2nd.
