Don't think the devils would be willing to give all that up for a goalie who probably isn't nearly as good in the devils system

They also get a solid speedy 2 way Center that is brothers with a fellow devil.

I don’t think Ullmarks play would change that much devils are solid defensively aswell.

Depends how high they are on Holtz still

Devils don't need anymore centers Hughes Hischier Haula Mercer McLeod Nosek can all play C. And I can assure you he wouldn't devils are not nearly as good as boston defensively and play a much more loose system. As for Holtz Fitzgerald said he considers him a potential "pillar piece" which he uses to refer to Hughes Hischier etc so I doubt he gets dealt with 1st and a 2nd for a 30+ year old goalie

EDM gives up way too much for yet another middling G that would get lit up behind this team and a one-dimensional top-6 W while really not solving any of the team's biggest problems (team defense & a reliable, long-term G). And they do it while giving up their 1st this year. That's not a well thought-out trade.

Anyone who watches the Bruins consistently doesn’t believe it is the defense that is making the goaltenders. Their recent run without McAvoy, Grzelcyk and Forbort had two AHL journeyman and a talented prospect who is learning.

Don’t get me wrong, Carlo is playing out of his mind and McAvoy is a truck, but Lindholm is finally rounding into form after a very mediocre start. Like last year. their goaltenders continually bailed them out.

The reality is their goaltending is a massive strength

It’s the other way around. Bob Essensa has turned the athletic, fundamentally unsound goaltender we saw in Boston into an athletic, fundamentally great goaltender we are watching now.

I think there is definitely something for these two teams to explore

1. Devils aren’t trading Holtz anytime in near future. They have taken long road with him in developing him. When they first brought him over for his first brief stint in AHL, MacKinnon said they have to develop him…won’t jump right in. In the off-season, they got him linked up with Bratt’s skating and skill coaches in Sweden. When he was in and out of lineup last year, they kept him on roster so Brunette could work one-on-one with him (instead of putting him on showcase in AHL). When Sharks asked about Holtz in Meier trade, Fitzy was said to have responded, “if Holtz, only Holtz.” It shows what NJD management thinks of him….Holtz is not, and has never been, a trade chip. Especially when he has 1.5 years on ELC.

2. Devils GM has said he doesn’t trade goalies in season (unless there is an injury to fill). He committed to Vanecek and Schmid for this year. I think it would have to get much worse for him to break that. So if anything, it would be a trade for 2024 off-season.

3. I think any picks or any player off our roster (with exception of Nemec) are probably fair game. Gritsyuk, Casey or Filmon would have to hardest to acquire. Stillman and Squires would definitely be fair game (although Stillman has looked pretty good in AHL thus far).

4. For Ulmark, if expectations for extension were reasonable and he was open to extending, that probably would suffice enough where we would view as more than rental (he is still young player).

5. DeBrusk could also be a guy NJD may be interested in as replacement for Toffoli. Either as UFA or acquired before.

6. Devils also have a short-term need for a defensively responsible dman who can handle puck well. Severson and Graves were big losses for us and we need cleaner d-zone exits than what we are getting now from Bahl and Smith. I was thinking about Grz as option the other day…but there are a couple of lesser dmen in Bruins system that may fit the bill to patch up things in near term.

7. I think NJD would take interest in Coyle as well, should be open to moving. We have Centers, but not a lot of Center depth as Haula and Mercer are often on the wings.

Sorry for longer response, but I think there are a lot of ways Bruins and Devils match up for a trade. Maybe for dman and DeBrusk during this season…and goalie swap in off-season. Will noodle on it some.

Thanks for the very in-detail response I actually prefer those so I can have a better understanding of another team.

I could definitely see a trade surrounding debrusk or grzelcyk. Coyle maybe not so much as he has been key for us this season and until we have a replacement top 6 Center we will have to hold on to him.

Grzelcyk wouldn’t be to hard to acquire bruins would probably be willing to retain and take back salary like smith or miller if it added value to the return.

I've watched plenty of the bruins my buddy is a big time Bs fan think of it like this boston in the first round last year is the devils standard game 2 on 1s over and over again horrible breakout it's more of shot at the devils almost every goalie since rough has been here has just suffered

Jake Debrusk is a top 4 PK on the #1 PK team (by far) in the NHL this year. Rip him about his streaky scoring all you want but he is hardly a 1 dimensional player.

I agree with the sentiment, this is a sell trade for the B's and there is no reason to think they'll be in that mindset this year.
