Description
If I'm Ken Holland, no picks are safe. McDavid and Drai will be exhausted come playoff time. They need help and this team needs good depth ASAP.

Nothing would be worse than to not go all out, over the next couple years, when the team clearly needs to improve and is in possibly their best window for the foreseeable future.

The following year, there is a decent cap amount to work with. Bourgault replaces Barabanov while Holloway replaces Janmark. Re-sign Foegele if the AAV is reasonable (the same? Slightly less?) or find a vet third liner to replace him. There is enough money for Raddysh and Broberg plus a backup goalie. It's a decent two year window before you have to sell Drai on the future to stay and Bouchard's next extension.

The cap is still a mess. You're forgetting the bonus money from Connor Brown next season. Once he plays 10 games. The Oilers have a 3.225M cap hit the following season.
With or without Brown. They are tied.

Hawks easily decline. Campbell takes those two 1st's at a minimum just to dump. Connor Brown holds zero value. Tullio and a 3rd doesn't come close to getting Murphy OR Raddysh, let alone both. Take out Murphy and Raddysh to the Oilers and Hawks probably consider it.

Pretty sure Connor Brown is also due a 3m bonus if he plays 10 games. So that makes that an extra easy decline.

That's correct. But he's gonna get waived to the AHL before that kicks in. So no value. He's just a high priced AHL'er.

To me that's an easy waive or mutual termination.

That's extreme. But if that's your take for Chicago, another rebuilding team would take Campbell for a first. Definitely wouldn't take two firsts.

4 years at $5m for a single 1st round pick? Who's taking that? Maybe if it was a guaranteed top 5 pick. Campbell has been wildly inconsistent. He isn't close to worth his contract. And even if that was the case, Hawks still don't trade Murphy and Raddysh for a 1st, a 3rd and Tullio. So it still a decline.

A team like the Sharks that are borderline horrible would be dumb not to take a guy like Campbell for a 1st round pick. You're not going to be competitive in at least 3 more years anyway. The 5 million will help you get above the cap floor while also being as bad as possible. On top of that, you could just buy him out or bury a lot of his cap hit in the minors. It's literally just a free late first-round pick. Not sure why bottom-feeder teams would be so reluctant but I guess you would know that perspective better.

Vaakanainen is playing better than Kulak right now and isn't tied to a bloated 3 year contract. Easy pass for the Ducks.

Barabanov alone gets a return like that. Lavoie is decent but isn’t much better than Coe, if at all. Gotta say this is a fairly easy pass.

Good luck sending 4 years 5M for trash goalie somewhere for only a 1st. Hawks don't need him, don't want him, don't have room for him. Phone call over.

Bailey had 1 year 5M left on his contract and cost a 2nd to move. Campbell has 4 years at that price. If they Oilers want "free cap space" they have to pay for it. Hawks are not a charity organization taking your donations and giving you tax write-offs.

It's hardly a "free" 1st rounder. Campbell is owed $19.5m in actual salary. And even with the buyout, it's still $15m in real money. $6m for this year and $9m after the buyout. Simply look at history. Patty Marleau took a 1st to dump. One year at $6m. Josh Bailey this past off season. A 2nd for one year at $5m. Campbell is 4 years at $5m. No GM is doing Holland a favor and taking his worst contract off his hands at a discount.

You aren't understanding the market rate to take on $20M of dead cap space over 4 years if you think it only costs a late 1st to move Soup. Even if the team buys out Soup, they spread the cap penalty even further than 4 years. It's going to cost a late 1st, plus a good prospect for it to make sense to a team. Alternatively, a couple late 1sts or equal value.

Only people in Edmonton dont think it would take that to move campbell. the guy cant stop a beach ball and has 3x5M left after this year. You dont retain you pay big time

Cal Peterson, albeit a 3 way deal, ended up more or less costing the Kings a 2nd and B prospect. The first was CBJs for Provorov. Again, a 3 way deal but Kings weren't crippled by a 2 yr goalie contract dump. So, it's not crazy talk as much as everyone wants to act like.
