What does Hertl cost

Description
Thomas Hertl is an underrated forward IMO. I've always loved watching him play.

With San Jose heading down the full rebuild route, and based on his age, how much would it cost to acquire him?

1) While he's still quite effective, he's got an incredibly long and pricey deal and he probably will be declining in the last 3 years of said deal, but that still leaves 3-4 great years.

2) He's kind of like a more consistently healthy Monahan, so he can take a 2C role behind Zuke, or he could line up on Zuke's wing.

3) I would expect the Sharks would want to get fair value for him, but like the Karlsson deal, they probably won't mind sweetening a deal by taking back some bad cap short term

Habs best Center prospect in Beck

An NHL-ready two way defender in Trudeau who cannot get the time of day from the Habs

Dvorak is a good 3C who can play 2C in a pinch. He's overpaid by about 1.2M/season, but the Sharks won't care about that. Also if they play him in offensive situations, maybe they can trade him at the TDL when his deal is expiring.

not the right timing to acquire a 29 year old winger.

Soon, but not now... his contract is gonna prevent us from signing our young studs.

He's played wing before... Quite a lot actually.

I also mentioned that I see him as interchangeable with Monahan. Monahan has been so effective though that I would not mess with the chemistry the vets are feeling, but I would swap them around if I needed a spark.

Haters gonna hate I guess...

He played wings because SJ haved Pavelski, Couture and Thornton as their three centermans.

I'm just saying, I see him like a more consistently healthy Monahan and I love Monahan.

It might take Dach 2-3 years to recover the way it took Markov. We need to hope for the best, but plan for the worst. I would rather have Hertl and be competitive for 4 years than draft a top 10 pick this season (in kind of a crappy draft) and hope we get an effective forward in 3-4 years.

I don't really like the Herlt contract. And i'm 1000% keep Dach even with his injury now.

No one likes that contract. But that's why he might be available. We need another PPG potential forward to take this team to at least a "pretender" status.

I know that, but I certanly trust Hughes to make it happen. Hertl is a player that can fit great on the Habs roster of course, but his contract who end until 2030...... That's little bit too long for me, but I will try something.

Look at the centers his age with his effectiveness around the league. Miller, Kadri, Horvat, PLD: That's what they earn. In a few years that won't seem like so much money.

Also if they trade Monahan, who will fill that role next season? Newhook? Dach? Beck? None of them is as sure of a thing as Hertl. If Monahan hits 60+ points and they want to resign him, how much do you think he asks for in Salary and what term?

I belive teams will be aware to sign Monahan for a long term deal with a high price because of his injuries history. My tough is Monahan will sign a 3-4 years deal with a 4M-4.5M average, but will stay with Montreal.

But one of by prediction is Montreal will sign a free agent like Stamkos for the next season.

If he stays healthy this year and puts up 0.75ppg, I cannot imagine him accepting that deal.

Maybe wanted to be in the Habs process. If he stay with MTL, he will likely sign his contract at the TDL (same situation than Kreider at the 2020 TDL).

Not sure Hertl would waive to go to Montreal, but if he would I think the offer (with no retention) is likely in the ballpark. The Sharks are pretty loaded up on defense prospects right now, do you have any wingers you could toss in instead of Trudeau?

You're probably right, but if the Habs don't regress in the next 20-25 games, I would look at a deal like this one.

For sure they do. I think Trudeau is the lowest value player in the deal, so if the rest looks right, I am sure this deal closes with a different player or a pick in place of Trudeau.

As a Sharks fan, nothing wows me here except the 1st.
Especially since we don't need to trade Hertl. He's a fan favorite, but I would hope we would do this trade so the fans would riot and we could get rid of Grier and Quinn.

Value wise it's close though, but we don't need Dvorak. He's a cap dump to us. To anyone I'd imagine.

I would hardly call a 0.51ppg 3rd line center a cap dump. He's consistently good in the faceoff dot and brings consistent offence. As I said, he should earn 3.25M but he earns 4.45M so he's not a great value or anything, but for a team like the Sharks, who will be bottom feeding for a few seasons, you have to ice someone right?

What are your comparables for Hertl in terms of trade value? Horvat? PLD? Fiala?

He's overpaid and the sharks have Sturm. You're moving him because of the cap hit, not the value.
He wouldn't be .5 ppg on the Sharks either. Dude, we don't even have a win this year.

I think the Sharks would be looking for a 1st and a great prospect.
I don't see it in that package.

Are you guys really going to be buying now? I figured next year.

He's the only positive the Sharks have this year except for a couple rookies Quinn benches or misuses.

Benning is arguably are top RD and we're subsidizing two teams in the Eastern conference. We're about to subsidize another at the TDL.

Full marks btw for NOT doing retention. That's not a joke either, I'm serious.

Probably not buying this year. Maybe in the offseason. But in the early season craziness with 7 of 10 points, it's fun to dream.

And to be clear, I think Hertl would kill it on the Habs.
I'm too negative this morning.
