Description
Mathieu Joseph's "negative value" would probably cost a first round pick in the 27-32 range. So instead the Flyers get a 2nd round pick plus Brannstrom who has roughly the value of a 2nd himself and is a player who I think would fit perfectly into the Flyers short and long term future.

This is still AWFUL for Ottawa

Brannstrom + 2nd is more valuable than a late 1st or two 2nds

Please explain to me why you would do that when you instead of just waiving Dominik Kubalik?

Of course you agree with gsmbsbdaenny since you are getting BENT like crazy

You give up a solid 3rd liner (26 y/o), a solid #5 two-way D-man (just turned 24 y/o) and a 2nd round pick for a UFA 6th D-man

Because waiving Kubalik doesn't give us enough cap space.

He makes 2.5 AAV, Pinto should not be getting that kind of AAV this season but even if he does, he just replaces him.

I know this isn't ideal but what can yo do? Pierre Dorion has managed this whole thing and has shown he is inept

Waiving a player doesn’t remove his cap hit. They could bury a portion of his salary if he gets sent down to AHL, but would still need another subtraction…and without 20-man roster.

Seeler pretty much equivalent in value to Brannstrom, plus he's cheaper and tougher. Second round pick isn't enough to dump Joseph. Maybe Thompson and a second + fourth

I think this is the type of trade that would happen if it does. Everyone on here has me all wrong they think I’m only trading for Joseph if a 1st is involved but I’m just saying a 2nd alone isn’t enough

Kubalik would 100% be picked up

Lyubushin with his 2.75 AAV got traded for a 4th in August when the cap crunch was just as big as it is now, or even bigger

At this point in season, when most teams have the lineups healthy and set, and most are up against the cap, I don’t think you could say that.

Two things I would say about this.

First I think if the rumoured and widely known price is atleast the first round pick, I don't see Philly giving in when they have all the leverage. At this point its on Ottawa to get something done, I just dont see why Philly settles for less to help them out? If anything, the price keeps going up.

Second, I get your explanation on the whole value, I kind of agree, Brannstrom and the second equals being able to get rid of Joseph, but then you're getting Seeler for free?? Why would the flyers do that when they can easily just keep him and trade him at the deadline for a draft pick?

Lassi? He has quite literally zero value, been placed on waivers twice in the past two weeks, if Philly wanted him they couldve gotten him for free

Injuries pile up, most teams are always looking for more scoring depth.

Teams with cap space would pick him up without even thinking with the intention of getting a pick at the deadline

Even some teams who don’t have enough cap space would send their mother to the AHL to create enough cap space

except Buffalo wasn't ina cap crunch, they didn't need to move Bush. Ottawa is, they need to move someone. Teams will take advantage of that.

I think he'd be picked up, but it would be a bad team with lot's of cap. But, I agree with your sentiment. No one is claiming Joseph on waivers, i doubt Brannstrom gets picked up on waivers.

He was picked up by the worst team in the league and couldnt even cut it there, so the team that dropped him already re picked him up so they can play him in the AHL lmaooooo.

That's a good point regarding Buffalo cap situation

It's also true that teams who can do this will look for a compensation but "taking advantage of" has its limits, teams don't ally together against another team, ONE team will want to benefit of the situation over others, so if a team is ready to take the contract for a 2nd round pick, it would then be on the table.

That said, I'm not even sure Dorion would want to pay anything to move Joseph (I rarely agree with him but on this I would if that's what he thinks). It's either that he hesitates to move Kubalik (even if it makes more sense) or he's trying to make a more complicated deal that would make the team better while creating enough space to sign Pinto. He would then maybe be ready to spend a pick or two

Same thing for Kubalik, a team who NEEDS him will want to get him, teams won't ally against one team "ok nobody takes him", no, teams think about their own situation and what benefits them. All teams are individual businesses

I mean if we weren’t cluttered with old, fairly useless RHD then Lassi would definitely be our 3RHD the problem is we literally have 0 room right now because we signed too many old guys lol
