Description
Quinn Hughes on playing with Filip Hronek: "(I) probably haven't played with a player as good as him. He's really skilled, can move the puck, can see things, can defend, can skate... they wanted to maybe split us up but I'm happy we're together"

Cap would have to come back or retained. The pick is going the wrong way and too low in this trade value. Cute story, what was he suppose to say? There are no other above average d around?

Winnipeg isn't paying a player and a pick to take back a bad contact to help Vancouver out. Van needs a nice add to Garland and some retention to entice a trading partner.

I like this idea, even if it was 1 for 1 or we add a late round pick. Garland thinks he's a top 6 player and gets paid like a top 6 player but has yet to produce like a top 6 player. Maybe a change in scenery is what he needs. After this BS I hope he's a healthy scratch tomorrow.

I didn't know Hughes said that. That's cool. Hope they stay with that.

Retain 1.5 million on Garland. I like the way the bottom six looks with Appleton. Or replace Appleton for Logan Stanley and a 2024 3rd and 2026 7th something like that.

Appleton isn't very good and injury prone so why are they adding? Garland is actually a good player but never wanted to go to Vancouver. Term helps Winnipeg as well. His agent got him a nice deal though. Thanks Jimbo lol

Yup, could be a solid pair. Looks like it'll be the opening night starting pair until Soucy comes back at least.

Agreed. It's terrible timing to try and force a trade. Seems he's being professional about it but the agent was hired to do this so leaks are out. I think he's a good player. 50pt.ish with no PP time is quite good production. Being on a line with Petey it seems so he better take advantage of it.

Ya I get it. Minus Appleton its $2.8M so not terrible. Though I'd argue the term is a benefit to Winnipeg if Chevy liked Garland.

The trade helps Vancouver and dumps a bad contract on the Jets, so Winnipeg isn't moving Appleton or adding a pick. A 3rd alone is an overpay for Garland at 50% retained.

The Jets don't need an overpaid entitled bottom 6 winger. They just cleaned out their dressing room problems, so you can hang onto Garland.

Garland wants out, you're not getting the King's ransom you expect.

Lol this is such an extreme take. No one in the history of Appleton's career will equate him and a middle pick to a kings random for ANY PLAYER. Not even a career AHLer. Let alone suggest a player at 50% retained who is productive and defensively reliable, despite his stature, would be an overpay... Poco Loco

Heck no! Mantha has been absolutely terrible the past few seasons. Mantha would be a healthy scratch in Vancouver. For salary cap purposes I get it but there is no salary cap pressure im Vancouver this year and after with the expiring deals they have.

For a player with a bad contact that is demanding a trade, the 3rd is a King's ransom.

Knowing that it costs a 1st to dump 6M on a 1yr, dumping 5M with 3yrs left for a 3rd is a no brainer. You make this deal even if the player you receive is a 4th liner. And Mantha could easily bounce back.

Keep the 50 pt guy. Don't give up picks. Garland being equated to trash players is wild to me. He's unhappy in his role. So, he's getting his chance with Petey. We'll see what he can do.

He's unhappy in his role. He's now getting his top line opportunity with Petey. We'll see what happens. Wasn't long ago both Helly and Scheifele were cranky ****s looking for an out, then money talked. For Garland, the opportunity is now here.

I mean he is an undersized winger making nearly 5M aav for the next years and he can't really produce. Sound like a dump to me. His value is probably near zero right now.

What do you mean he can't produce? Solid 5v5 forward. I think he was 30th in all the NHL forwards at even strength points a year ago. 50ish pts a season. Come on... Mantha is a 20 pt, got paid and quit trying, player that is a cap dump.

That's cool then. Maybe the Nucks can give him the role he wants and he'll be happy, but for now I think you'll be hanging onto him. It's too hard for teams to try and fit in a $5.0 player without equivalent salary going back. They have their lineups and cap space planned and Garland isn't good enough to move players and upset that.
