Boston should not part with another 1st and Lysell for a player as old as Couture is.

This is one of those deals that is somehow bad for both teams. The Sharks don't want to lock up their last retention slot for that long, and the Bruins aren't going to want to give up that much for a guy that will be a 3C in 2 years.

Couture isnt likely to be a top center through the life of his contract and paying for the backend of a questionable deal might be OK for San Jose, but it would be lunacy for the Bruins. Like Marchand, Couture is going to be worth more to his team at his age than to a team trading for him. Just acknowledge that and move on.

It’s much easier to make a trade when you have cap room. I think Boston is just going to deal with their current situation and revisit next year unless the right package is available. They’ll have their first rounders and probably a better picture of their goalie situation.

On a side note, I would not trade Lysell. He needs to rediscover the things about his game that make him a pretty interesting prospect. His value is lower than his return.

Its not a given that BOS pays all the rest of Couture's contract, especially at an already discounted price. When your owner is Jeremy Jacobs you can basically do whatever you want.
