Date de création initiale: 29 sept. 2023

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Instead of the 1rst round asking price to dump Joseph, Ottawa gives up a 3rd and 4th instead.

Joseph goes home to Mtl and the Habs adds a 2nd and a b prospect in Engstrom to dump Armia.

Philly gets a 2nd, 3rd, 4th round pick and a b prospect (former 3rd round defenseman) to take on Armia’s contract.

Pretty bad take if you think Engstrom is a trade chip to move a guy you can bury in the minors

I would hate to see Joseph play for a divisional rival, hopefully the Sens just take another route and keep him

Beggers can't be choosers. If the Habs come in with this offer, we take it and run.

ZERO chance Montreal pays high value futures to get rid of Armia or take a 4th line with term for low pick they don't need.

The only high value future Montreal loses here is the 2025 2nd. 3rds and 4thd are typically viewed as mid value and the prospect being offered is seen as around the B grade range.

That’s if you assume Joseph is a cap dump and can’t be beneficial to the team, or at least as much than the other players who could be moved

Would it not be cheaper to lose Ylonen to waivers and buy out armia next season. Instead of 3 draft picks and a “B” prospect

I wouldn't know. I don't know the Habs' contracts outside of big names and Armia.

He isn't a true cap dump but he is being paid more than he's worth and with very few teams having any cap space, it certainly won't be easy to move him.

That’s why you do something else…

Look at 25-35 y/o forwards making 2.5 to 4.5, I don’t find Joseph that overpaid… Many of the guys who produce more completely suck defensively and don’t bring the PK element and many of the guys who are also good defensively don’t produce as much

Makes no sense to pay for a guy that is overpaid a few hundred K$ at most (and will not be going forward I’d bet). Gotta make other decisions; Dorion had all the time in the world to plan for this. He decided to sign Korpisalo, Tarasenko, Hamonic and MacEwen, so what was the plan?

So you do agree they are loosing a high value future.

It's-a-no-Mario

Look at what KH did in the Petry trade: Dumped a contract in return, spreaded the increased caphit and GAINED a 2nd. This is no way close to that.

P.s.: Engstrom has very good reports (www.habseyesontheprize.com/adam-engstrom-season-grade-analysis-montreal-canadiens-defence-prospect-shl/)

Playing on Sweden U20 1st pairing might not make him a blue chip, but closer to a A than B.

Engstrom is off limits for a trade like this, Maybe Struble or Ylonen type players but not a B+ d prospect who is dominating the SHL on the top line

If Montreal thinks that they'll still be rebuilding in 2025 then yeah I could see if being high value, but if they aren't then it wouldn't be one.
